Deprecated and dropped features and components

TrueSight Capacity Optimization version 20.02 includes changes to the level of support for the following features and components.

To ensure that you do not overlook deprecated and dropped features and components that were announced in earlier versions of the product, some of the items listed here reiterate statements from the earlier releases.

Features and components dropped in 20.02.02

The following support is dropped in TrueSight Capacity Optimization 20.02.02.

Dropped Microsoft SQL Server/Sybase and Other database support from the Oracle Enterprise Manager Extractor

In the Connection parameters > Custom datasource type option, support for the Microsoft SQL Server/Sybase and Other database types, is dropped from the Oracle Enterprise Manager extractor in Cumulative Hotfix 4.

Dropped support for In-app self-help

The self-help menu is no longer available.

Features and components dropped in 20.02.01

The following support is dropped in TrueSight Capacity Optimization 20.02.01.

Dropped platform support for Oracle Enterprise Manager Cloud Control version 12.1.x 

Support for the following versions of OEM Cloud Control is dropped in this release:

12.1.0.1, 12.1.0.3, 12.1.0.4, 12.1.0.5

Dropped platform support for SUSE 11

Support for SUSE Linux Enterprise Server 11 SP4 for Application Server, ETL Engine, Gateway Server, and Capacity Agent is dropped in version 20.02.01. For a list of the supported OS versions per component, see Planning.

Features and components deprecated in 20.02.01

Support for the following features or components is deprecated in TrueSight Capacity Optimization 20.02.01:

Deprecated support for Virtual Planner

Virtual Planner is deprecated in version 20.02.01. It continues to exist in the product and will be supported for the entire life cycle of 20.02. BMC recommends that you use the Reservations workflow instead to perform planning for Virtualized infrastructures. Future versions might not contain Virtual Planner.

Deprecated support for Chargeback

Chargeback is deprecated in version 20.02.01. It continues to exist in the product and will be supported for the entire life cycle of 20.02. BMC recommends that you use BMC Helix Cloud Cost instead, which offers more flexible ways to achieve Showback and Chargeback reporting. Future versions might not contain the Chargeback module.

Deprecated support for Windows Gateway Server

The Windows version of Gateway Server is deprecated in version 20.02.01. It continues to exist in the product and will be supported for the entire life cycle of 20.02. BMC recommends that you use the Linux Gateway Server version. Future versions might not contain Windows Gateway Server (that is, Manager data processing on Windows).

Analyze and Predict user interfaces, with workload characterization, continue to exist in the product. These user interfaces will be released as standalone tools in future versions.

Deprecated support for IT Data Analytics extractor

BMC - TrueSight IT Data Analytics (ITDA) extractor is deprecated in version 20.02.01. It continues to exist in the product and will be supported for the entire life cycle of 20.02. Future versions might not contain ITDA ETL.

Deprecated support for Integration Studio

Integration Studio is deprecated in version 20.02.01. It continues to exist in the product and will be supported for the entire life cycle of 20.02. BMC recommends that you use the ETL Development Kit (EDK) to develop new custom ETLs. Future versions might not contain Integration Studio.

There is no change to the available languages (Java and Perl) to develop and run custom ETLs. Any existing custom ETL continues to work as usual.

Deprecated support for Remedy Single Sign-On 9.1.03

Support for Remedy Single Sign-On 9.1.03 is deprecated in version 20.02.01. RSSO 9.1.03 will be supported for the entire life cycle of 20.02. For details, see Compatibility matrix.

Deprecated support for Microsoft Internet Explorer 11

Starting with the product versions releasing in 2021, BMC will not support the use of Microsoft Internet Explorer version 11 with TrueSight Capacity Optimization. For a complete list of BMC products that will no longer support Internet Explorer 11, see the  BMC Customer Support Communities page Open link .

As technology continues to advance, it has become more challenging to resolve browser-specific issues related to Internet Explorer 11. BMC may attempt to fix some issues related to that version, but some features may not work as expected.

Because of security compromises and performance issues, BMC recommends that you do not use Internet Explorer 11 and instead switch to other fully supported browsers.

BMC will still support Internet Explorer 11 on TrueSight Capacity Optimization 20.02.01 and prior releases where Internet Explorer 11 was already supported.

Microsoft still supports Internet Explorer 11 on some operating systems (including Microsoft Windows 8.1 and 10 and Windows Server 2012 and 2016). For more information, see the Microsoft  Lifecycle FAQ - Internet Explorer and Edge Open link page.

Deprecated support for the HP uCMDB extractor

Support for the HP uCMDB extractor is deprecated in version 20.02.01.

Deprecated support for the HP BSM extractor

Support for the HP BSM extractor is deprecated in version 20.02.01.

Features and components dropped or deprecated in 20.02

No feature or component is dropped or deprecated in TrueSight Capacity Optimization 20.02.

Features and components dropped in earlier releases

Support for the following features or components was dropped in earlier releases of TrueSight Capacity Optimization. 

Dropped support for event detection models

Support for event detection models is dropped in TrueSight Capacity Optimization 11.5.01. To identify anomalies in time series with respect to typical behavior, you can create a custom statistic that represents the moving average of a metric and an optimizer rule that checks the differences between the custom statistic and the metric. This approach does not require creating a model and has the following advantages:

  • Scales up to include multiple systems
  • Provides proactive notifications including emails whenever a change is detected

Dropped Citrix XenServer Extractor support

Support for the Citrix XenServer extractor is dropped in TrueSight Capacity Optimization 11.5.01. You can use the BMC TrueSight Capacity Optimization Gateway VIS files parser ETL to collect data from the Citrix XenServer environment.

If you are using the Citrix XenServer ETL for extracting data from your Citrix XenServer environments, data collection will stop after the upgrade.

If you are using the Citrix XenServer ETL with the Gateway VIS files parser ETL and they are sharing the same entity catalog, data collection will continue with the Gateway VIS files parser ETL.

You must unschedule and delete the existing Citrix XenServer ETLs.

Dropped support for creating Investigate studies using the Create Investigate Study wizard

The Create Investigate Study wizard cannot be used for creating Investigate studies in TrueSight Capacity Optimization 11.5.01. You can now create Investigate studies directly from the Investigate Study page. For more information, see Creating and managing Investigate Studies.

Dropped support for developing custom ETL modules in Perl language in Integration Studio

Integration Studio does not support the development of custom ETL modules in Perl language in TrueSight Capacity Optimization 11.5. Execution of ETL modules in Perl language continues to be fully supported. All existing custom ETL modules in Perl language will continue to work normally. In version 11.5, a new ETL Development KIT (CLI utility) is provided to create or upload ETL modules in Perl language without using Integration Studio. Integration Studio continues to support the full lifecycle of development of custom ETL modules in Java language. Dropped support for Cloud Lifecycle Management

The following components are not available anymore in TrueSight Capacity Optimization 11.5:

  • Cloud Lifecycle Management connector
  • Cloud Capacity View for Cloud Lifecycle Management
  • Capacity-Aware Placement Advice
  • Automated Chargeback for Cloud Lifecycle Management


The related features in Capacity Optimization will not be accessible after upgrade to version 11.5. Note these specifics:

  • Cloud Lifecycle Management Connector will not be executable. However, all imported data will remain available
  • Cloud Capacity View will not be available
  • Capacity-Aware Placement Advice will not be available. Unregister the BCM Provider in the Cloud Lifecycle Management to be redirected to use the default round-robin placement policy.
  • Automated Chargeback for Cloud Lifecycle Management will not be available; existing Chargeback reports will be preserved for historical purposes but will not be updated anymore. Do note that this drop is not in any way affecting the general Chargeback capability of TrueSight Capacity Optimization, which remains fully supported. This drop is only related to the capability of the automated update of Chargeback models for Cloud Lifecycle Management.


Customers using Cloud Lifecycle Management can continue to use TrueSight Capacity Optimization version 11.3, which is certified with Cloud Lifecycle Management 4.6.x.

Dropped support for Customized Queuing Network Models

Customized Queuing Network Models are no longer available in TrueSight Capacity Optimization 11.5. Users can continue to use Queuing Network Models (formerly known as Express Queuing Network Models), which are easier to create and use. Existing models of unsupported type will be preserved after upgrading to version 11.5, and you can browse the previous results, but they will not be executable. For more information, see Queuing network model.

Dropped support for BMC - Atrium Discovery and Dependency Mapping (ADDM) extractor

The BMC - Atrium Discovery and Dependency Mapping (ADDM) extractor is dropped in TrueSight Capacity Optimization 11.5. You can use the BMC Discovery ETL to collect data from BMC Discovery. For more information, see BMC Discovery 11.x Extractor.

Dropped support for data collection using monitoring scripts (AWS API ETL)

From TrueSight Capacity Optimization 11.5, the support for using monitoring scripts to send system-level metrics to Amazon CloudWatch is dropped. You can use the CloudWatch Agent to collect these system-level metrics. For more information, see Collecting EC2 instance metrics using the CloudWatch agent.

Dropped support for installing the Capacity Agent using the wizard and silent installation methods

The Capacity Agent cannot be installed silently or by using the wizard in TrueSight Capacity Optimization 11.5. You can install the Agent using a shell script or a Docker container. For more information, see Installing the Capacity Agent.

Dropped support for Oracle client 11.x

Support for 11.x Oracle clients is dropped in TrueSight Capacity Optimization 11.5. Instead, you can use Oracle client 12c or later. For more information, see Database requirements.

Dropped support for 7-Mode (NetApp Data ONTAP ETL)

Data collection from 7-Mode cluster controllers is dropped in TrueSight Capacity Optimization 11.5. For more information, see NetApp Data ONTAP ETL.

Dropped support for Warehousing on demand

The Warehousing on demand page is dropped from the TrueSight Capacity Optimization console in 11.5.

Dropped support for Visual Map analysis from the Workspace

Support for the Visual Map Editor was dropped in TrueSight Capacity Optimization 11.3.01. You can use the easy-to-configure Visual map custom view template in the TrueSight console to draw interactive maps. With this new template, you can easily create and modify a visual map and preview the output. For more information, see Configuring the Visual map template.

Dropped support for Ceilometer data collection from OpenStack ETL

Support for collecting data by using the Ceilometer module from OpenStack was dropped in TrueSight Capacity Optimization 11.3.01. You can configure the OpenStack ETL to use the Nova module for metric collection. To collect utilization metrics, you can use Capacity Agents

Dropped support for views in the TrueSight Capacity Optimization console

Support for accessing view groups and views (out-of-the-box and custom capacity views) in the TrueSight Capacity Optimization console was dropped in TrueSight Capacity Optimization 11.0. Use the TrueSight console to access all capacity views.

Adding and managing view groups and custom views in the TrueSight Capacity Optimization console

Support for adding view groups and custom views in the TrueSight Capacity Optimization console was dropped in TrueSight Capacity Optimization 11.0. Creation of new custom portlet by using Capacity Optimization Integration Studio and all existing portlets was dropped. The ability to create custom views and view groups is available only from the TrueSight console with greatly improved workflow and usability.

If you have existing custom views in the TrueSight Capacity Optimization console, you must create them in the TrueSight console before you upgrade to version 11.0 or later. For more details, see Adding and managing views.

Dropped support for Consolidation Models

Support for Consolidation Models was dropped in TrueSight Capacity Optimization 11.0. The models were deprecated in version 10.5 because better support for consolidation/virtualization scenarios is provided by the functionalities of the Virtual Planner (see Virtual Planner). You are encouraged to start using Virtual Planner instead of Consolidation Models.

Dropped support for inline report viewer for advanced BIRT reports

Support for inline report viewer for advanced BIRT reports was dropped in TrueSight Capacity Optimization 11.0. You can export the report to the supported format to view the required details.

Perceiver module dropped

The Perceiver user interface was dropped in TrueSight Capacity Optimization 11.0. The interface was deprecated in 10.0 and all the major Perceiver capabilities were integrated with the TrueSight Capacity Optimization console. The Perceiver module was also removed from the Installer.

General Manager and Virtualization Planner sections of the Perceiver user interface were dropped in version 10.0 because the related functionalities were integrated with the TrueSight Capacity Optimization console.

Visualizer module dropped

Visualizer user interface

The Visualizer user interface is not available from TrueSight Capacity Optimization 11.0. The interface was deprecated in 10.0 after all major Visualizer capabilities were integrated with the TrueSight Capacity Optimization console.

Visualizer database and related components

Support for the Visualizer Database and its related components, Automator and MPopulate (for UNIX platforms), and the CDB-CDB extractor was dropped in TrueSight Capacity Optimization 11.0.

These components were deprecated in version 10.0. This is because integration via VIS files became the recommended approach for integrating the data that is collected by TrueSight Capacity Optimization Agents with Capacity Optimization database. The renamed TrueSight Capacity Optimization CDB-CDB extractor was also deprecated in TrueSight Capacity Optimization version 10.0. 

Windows Proxy Agent dropped

The Windows Proxy Agent component was dropped in TrueSight Capacity Optimization 11.0. The agent was deprecated in version 10.5 because the connector from Moviri add-on (see Moviri ETL modules), provided a more flexible and scalable option for Windows technologies to integrate with Microsoft System Center Operations Manager (SCOM). You are encouraged to adopt the SCOM connector for remotely collecting data for Windows technologies. You must continue to use Windows agents to collect workloads and process data (virtual node) from local systems where they are installed.

Note that an earlier version of the connector for Microsoft System Center Operations Manager (SCOM) that was based on SCOM Operational Database, was deprecated in version 9.5 and then dropped in version 10.0. The recommended SCOM connector is instead based on SCOM Data Warehouse, which is the Microsoft-recommended integration point.

Dropped support for Internet Explorer version 10

From TrueSight Capacity Optimization 11.0, the TrueSight Capacity Optimization console does not support Internet Explorer 10. For more information, see Browser requirements for TrueSight Capacity Optimization consoles.

Dropped the Investigate native user interface

The Investigate native user interface was dropped in TrueSight Capacity Optimization 11.0. The Investigate tool is available in the modern, web-based TrueSight console, which you can access from a web browser or a mobile device. Dropped UI option to hide systems, business drivers, and series without recent data

The UI option to hide systems, business drivers, and series without recent data was removed in TrueSight Capacity Optimization 11.0. You can now automatically dismiss and purge entities (systems and business drivers) that are inactive beyond a specified threshold period. For more information, see Enabling automatic dismissal and purging of systems and business drivers.

Dropped support for Gateway Server user interfaces

All Gateway Server user interfaces were dropped from the Linux Gateway Server in TrueSight Capacity Optimization 10.7. These include the Investigate, Analyze, and Predict user interfaces. The MOTIF-based user interfaces were deprecated in version 10.5. Support for /usr/adm/best1_default/bgs/scripts/best1 script was also dropped in version 10.7.

You are encouraged to use Windows-based user interfaces for Analyze (build workloads) and Predict (build models). You may continue to use Linux for the Gateway Server component for back-end processing (Manager Runs). Use the Gateway Manager from the TrueSight Capacity Optimization console to manage the Gateway Server manager runs and to verify that the Gateway Server is installed and configured correctly. To modify the existing manager runs after you upgrade from an earlier version, it is recommended to migrate manager runs.

Dropped platform support for the Gateway Server and Capacity Agents

From TrueSight Capacity Optimization 11.3.01, support for the following OS versions for Gateway Server and Capacity Agent is dropped:

VTEMPL template macro

Support for using the VTEMPL template macro in SQL queries for custom data mart creation is deprecated in version 11.5.01. You can use the VIEW macro that provides the same capabilities. For more information, see Using filter macros with SQL queries.

Deprecated support for the HP SiteScope extractor

Support for the HP SiteScope extractor is deprecated in version 11.5.01. You can use the BMC TrueSight Capacity Optimization Gateway VIS files parser ETL to collect data from the HP SiteScope monitoring tool.

Deprecated support for event detection models

Support for the event detection models is deprecated in TrueSight Capacity Optimization 11.5. You are encouraged to use the Express queuing network model Open link that provides the same what-if capabilities with a simplified workflow. You are encouraged to use the that provides the same what-if capabilities with a simplified workflow.

Deprecated support for BMC Cloud Lifecycle Management-integrated features

The following features for BMC Cloud Lifecycle Management (CLM) were deprecated in TrueSight Capacity Optimization 11.3.01:

  • Capacity-Aware Placement Advice
  • Cloud Capacity Visibility view for CLM

  • Automated Chargeback for CLM

Deprecated entity types

The following entity types were deprecated in TrueSight Capacity Optimization 11.0:

  • Database Server               

  • Application Server           

  • Web Server                          

  • IPTV Server                         

  • Batch Server                       

  • SOA Server

You are encouraged to use Tags as a mechanism to identify the role or type of a given server. Applying and using tags is a more flexible mechanism that is used by all the capacity views for filtering and finding entities. For more information, see Managing tags. In future releases, the out-of-the box ETL modules will gradually stop using these types.

Deprecated support for Atrium Discovery and Dependency Mapping connector

The ETL module for Atrium Discovery and Dependency Mapping (ADDM) was deprecated in TrueSight Capacity Optimization 10.7 as a direct data source for TrueSight Capacity Optimization. The recommended integration approach for Discovery data is to populate Atrium CMDB, and then use the ETL module for Atrium CMDB.
