XenServer views

The XenServer view in TrueSight Capacity Optimization allows you to manage the capacity of a virtualized infrastructure running a XenServer based virtualization system, and presents key capacity metrics and charts for XenServer hosts and VMs. You can use XenServer views to see the total capacity, used capacity, remaining capacity and growth trend for CPU and memory sub-systems.

These views help you in answering critical questions related to your XenServer virtualization environment, such as:

  • Which host should the new domains be added to?
  • Do certain hosts require a better load balancing between them?
  • Which systems in a particular domain have exceeded their threshold values?

Certain metrics are required for these views. If the metrics are not imported into the TrueSight Capacity Optimization Data Warehouse, then corresponding columns are blank. Particularly for Data Explorer view for this platform, you must import specific metrics for some of the charts to be available.

The XenServer VM View, for instance, presents the resource allocation and usage pattern for all XenServer VMs in the host. Detailed views allow you to see a time series chart of the key metrics for the last 30 days, and the Treemap tab provides a graphical representation of the XenServer capacity.

Prerequisites

Ensure that the administrator has completed the following tasks:

For information about views in the TrueSight console, see Accessing and using capacity views in the TrueSight console.

Certified data sources

The certified data sources for these views are as follows:

  • BMC - TrueSight Capacity Optimization Gateway VIS files parser
  • BMC - TrueSight Operations Management 10.1/10.5 extractor

You must configure and run one of these ETL modules to import data into the view. For more information, see BMC - TrueSight Capacity Optimization Gateway VIS files parser and BMC - TrueSight Operations Management 10.1/10.5/10.7/11.0/11.3 Generic extractor.

If you are importing data from an ETL module other than the certified data source, then ensure that you have all the metrics populated in the ETL module so that the view shows the data.

Certain metrics are required for these views. If the metrics are not imported into the TrueSight Capacity Optimization Data Warehouse, then corresponding columns are blank. Particularly for Data Explorer view for this platform, you must import specific metrics for some of the charts to be available.

For a list of all the metrics in a view, see the required topic in the following views:

Data visibility

The views display data for all systems of the following types:

  • Virtual Host - Xen
  • Virtual Machine - Xen
