Deploying and verifying the vCloud View
VMware vCloud Director is a software solution that enables you to build secure and multi-tenant private clouds by pooling infrastructure resources into virtual datacenters. VMware vCloud Director also exposes users to web-based portals and programmatic interfaces as fully automated and catalog-based services.
This procedure describes how to deploy the vCloud View, which is a crucial step in Integrating BMC TrueSight Capacity Optimization with VMware vCloud Director.
Before you begin
You must have successfully completed the following integration tasks:
To deploy the view
Follow the steps given below, to deploy the vCloud View:
- Navigate to Administration > SYSTEM > Maintenance.
- Under Additional Packages, install Integration with BMC vCloud Director, as described in Performing system maintenance tasks. The following items are automatically installed and configured:
The system task loads data into the BMC TrueSight Capacity Optimization data warehouse once every 30 minutes, and not immediately after you execute a newly added VMware vCloud Director ETL task. You might need to wait up to 30 minutes before seeing the data collected by a newly added ETL task.
You can now access the vCloud view from the Views section by navigating to All Views > Cloud > vCloud in the left navigation area. You can use the vCloud view to manage your vCloud view. To ensure successful integration with VMware vCloud Director, you must verify that that the vCloud view works correctly.
To verify the installation of the view
To verify the installation status and whether its working properly, follow these steps:
- Navigate to the Views tab and expand the All Views > Cloud hierarchy in the left navigation area. Verify to see if you can can view the vCloud link under Cloud. If the vCloud link is present, it means your installation was successful.
- Ensure that the monitored infrastructure is represented correctly, and that all tables and charts are populated with data.
The vCloud view allows you to manage the capacity of the resources in your cloud environment. For more information, refer to vCloud capacity management.
Warning messages are displayed on the vCloud tab of the vCloud view, if the data is older than 24 hours. This tab also displays a detailed list of ETLs related to the vCloud infrastructure that were not correctly executed in the last 24 hours.
