Preparing to upgrade the Application Server and ETL Engine
Before upgrading to the latest version of the Application Server and ETL Engine, review the following sections and complete the required activities to ensure that the installation program can successfully perform the upgrade.
Complete the pre-upgrade tasks
Ensure that your Oracle environment is not hardened so that the TrueSight Capacity Optimizationproduct installer can query the ALL_USERS table in Oracle to retrieve the database users.
Ensure that you have a full database and file-system backup of the installation folder or VM snapshot of all servers that host TrueSight Capacity Optimization components. The Repository folder contains deployment-specific historical data that must be preserved upon upgrade. Restoring the database backup will suffice to restart the upgrade from scratch.
You can upgrade the product as a root or a non-root user. BMC recommends that you upgrade it as a root user, because the Shared Repository option is available only to the root user.
If you are using a local repository and want to use a shared repository after the upgrade, perform the following steps:
- Take a backup of your existing repository.
- Perform the upgrade as a root user, and select Shared Repository on the Shared Repository Configuration page.
- Copy the backup taken before starting the upgrade to
Recreate custom views
When upgrading from TrueSight Capacity Optimization version 10.7 or 10.7.01, custom views that were created in TrueSight Capacity Optimization version 10.7 will not be available after you upgrade to this version. If you want to continue to use these custom views, you must create them in the TrueSight console before you upgrade to 11.3.01.
|Step #||Console||Step||Reference/How-to topic|
|1.||TrueSight Capacity Optimization console|
Review the existing custom view to identify the data marts or models used to create the view.
Identify and select the view page templates that you need to create the required custom view.
|View page templates|
|3.||TrueSight console||Configure the required view page templates, data marts and models.||Adding and managing views|
A View Migration Toolkit is available in the that might assist in migrating some of the custom views from the TrueSight Capacity Optimization console to the TrueSight console. This explains how to migrate custom views by using the View Migration Toolkit.
The View Migration Toolkit is provided “as is” on the Capacity Optimization community, outside the scope of product maintenance and BMC Support.
Upgrade scenarios for a typical or distributed deployment
Depending on how you deployed the Application Server components, your upgrade process can vary.

Check the version of the integrated TrueSight Operations Management
Consider the following scenarios to work with the TrueSight Operations Management extractors:
Scenario 1: TrueSight Operations Management is upgraded to version 10.1 or later
|Scenario 2: TrueSight Operations Management version is not upgraded to 10.1 or later|
If you were using the old TrueSight Operations Management extractors, you must now use the corresponding new extractors.
To use the new extractor, perform the following steps:
You can continue to use the old extractors:
