Overallocated VMs page in the vSphere Virtual Machines view
The Overallocated VMs page in the vSphere Virtual Machines view displays a list of all VMs that are overallocated in terms of capacity.
To access the page, in the TrueSight console navigation pane, click Capacity > Views > Virtualization > vSphere > Virtual Machines, and in the vSphere Virtual Machines page, click the Overallocated VMs tab.
Overallocated VMs table
The Overallocated VMs page displays a summarized view of metrics for all overallocated VMs. Each row in the table corresponds to a VM in the cluster.
Name of the VM.
|Network Name||Name of the network to which the VM belongs.||Last value||NETWORK_NAME|
Brief description of the VM, taken from the metric allocation.
Name of the host on which the VM resides.
|Last value||Host name retrieved using relationship VH_CONTAINS_GM|
Name of the cluster on which the VM resides.
|Last value||Cluster name retrieved using relationship VHC_CONTAINS_GM|
|Data Center||Name of the data center in which the VM belongs.||Last value|
Data center name retrieved using relationship VHC_CONTAINS_GM and following relationship Cluster.DC_CONTAINS_VHC
|vCenter||Name of the vCenter for this VM.||Last value||vCenter name from Cluster.VIRTUALCENTER_NAME using relationship VHC_CONTAINS_GM |
Actual number of virtual CPU cores allocated to this VM.
Total CPU [GHz]
Total CPU allocated to the VM, measured in Gigahertz.
Difference between total CPU allocated to the VM and CPU demand of the VM.
CPU Used: 95th percentile
Total CPU: Last value
|Recommended vCPUs||Recommended virtual CPU cores for this VM. This value is based on the CPU demand indicator which estimates the CPU utilization of the VM in the last 30 days. The CPU utilization depends on the optimization behavior chosen in the settings.||N/A||IND_CPU_DEMAND|
Total memory allocated to the VM, measured in Gigabytes.
Memory Spare [GB]
Difference between total memory allocated to the VM and memory demand of the VM.
Memory Demand: based on 95th percentile value of inside OS memory if available, else based on consumed memory of VM.
Total memory: Last value
|Recommended Memory [GB]||Recommended memory to be allocated to this VM. This value is based on the memory demand indicator which estimates the memory utilization of the VM in the last 30 days.||Last value||IND_MEMORY_DEMAND|
File System Size [GB]
Total storage space allocated to the VM's file system, measured in Gigabytes.
File System Spare [GB]
Difference between total file system allocated to the VM and storage demand of the VM.
Storage Demand: Based on 95th percentile of the TOTAL_FS_USED
Total file system: Last value
|Recommended File System [GB]||Recommended storage to be allocated to this VM. This value is based on the storage demand indicator which estimates the filesystem utilization of the VM in the last 30 days.||Last value||IND_STORAGE_DEMAND|
To view details for a particular VM
To view the details page for a specific VM, click its (hyper-linked) name under the VM column. You can use the sorting and filtering options on the page to find a specific cluster.
The VM details page displays information for the selected VM under the following sections or panels:
|Section or Panel||Description|
A quick graphical summary of the CPU and memory utilization, and network bit rate and disk transfer rate for the VM. Core metrics for the selected entity are displayed as analysis charts, depending on available data. At the bottom of each chart is a link that takes you to the Data Explorer view for the specific resource type, and displays charts and information for a larger set of metrics.
The data displayed in Data Explorer view charts for any resource part of this view category, is based on the time filter that is applied to the primary view in this tab. You can select other time filter options to view charts over a different time resolution
For more information, see Virtual Machine page in the vSphere Data Explorer view.
|Configuration Details page||Configuration information about the cluster.|
|Related Information panel|
Links to detailed pages for thresholds.
|Recommendations panel||All available recommendations for the VM. For more information, see Recommendations page in the vSphere Virtual Machines view.|
|Tags panel||List of tags that are associated with the VM. You can assign or remove tags by using the Edit Tags option from the Tags action menu.|
