Integrating with Cloud Lifecycle Management

This topic describes how you can integrate the following TrueSight Capacity Optimization features with Cloud Lifecycle Management to manage capacity, provide placement advice, manage virtual machines and their capacity in a cloud environment, and perform chargeback.

FeatureDescription
Capacity-Aware Placement Advice

Provides real-time recommendations for placement of new workloads on your cloud when provisioning it with Cloud Lifecycle Management. These recommendations are based on available and forecasted capacity.

This feature is supported with the VMware vSphere platform only.

Cloud Capacity Visibility

Enables you to view and manage the capacity of cloud entities such as virtual clusters, network containers, pools, and pods in your cloud environment. Also provides an overview of available capacity, utilization, trends, and residual capacity in terms of CPU, virtual CPU, memory, and data storage space.

Chargeback

Provides support for defining and visualizing chargeback information, for example, cost models and target hierarchies, and automatically generating chargeback reports in different formats.

Note

From TrueSight Capacity Optimization 11.3.01, these features are deprecated. See Deprecated and dropped features and components.

For detailed information about configuring the integration of these TrueSight Capacity Optimization features with Cloud Lifecycle Management, see the following sections in this topic:

  • Deploy the Cloud Lifecycle Management integration.
  • Integrating TrueSight Capacity Optimization features with Cloud Lifecycle Management.
  • Begin using the integrated features in TrueSight Capacity Optimization.

Before you integrate the features

Before you can configure each of the features mentioned in the preceding section, you need to deploy the Cloud Lifecycle Management integration in TrueSight Capacity Optimization, and configure the appropriate ETL tasks to import Cloud Lifecycle Management data into TrueSight Capacity Optimization.

To perform these operations, you are required to complete the following tasks:

Integrating the features

After you have completed the tasks mentioned in the preceding section, you are ready to configure the integration of each TrueSight Capacity Optimization feature with Cloud Lifecycle Management.

Only after you complete the following integration and deployment tasks for each feature, can you begin using them in TrueSight Capacity Optimization. The following table lists all tasks required to accomplish this.
