Installing


The TrueSight Capacity Optimization product comprises various components, such as Remedy Single Sign-On Server, TrueSight Presentation Server, Application Server, and so on.

The installation process requires you to complete your planning activities before starting the preparatory, installation, and post-installation tasks. The installation flow diagram and the process table enable you to install the product smoothly.

In a test environment, you can install the Remedy SSO Server and the Presentation Server on the same computer, but install the Application Server, Gateway Server, and Capacity Agent on separate computers.

In a production environment, follow the sequence below, and install each of the TrueSight Capacity Optimization components on a separate computer.

Step 1: Complete the planning activities

As an administrator, use this information to plan a new deployment of TrueSight Capacity Optimization.

Step 2: Prepare for TrueSight Capacity Optimization installation

Complete the preinstallation tasks to ensure a successful installation.

Step 3: Install Remedy Single Sign-On

Remedy Single Sign-On (Remedy SSO) acts as the authentication tool to manage tenants (realms), user groups, and users for TrueSight Capacity Optimization and TrueSight Cloud Cost Control (If licensed).

You can install Remedy Single Sign-On in standalone or high-availability mode. Both these options are available in wizard-based and silent modes.

Installation of Remedy SSO is done in two phases:

  • Phase A: Installation of the Remedy SSO component
  • Phase B: Setting up the Remedy SSO server

If you want to install Remedy SSO version 18.05, perform the installation instructions given in Installing Remedy SSO 18.05 .

Step 4: Install TrueSight Presentation Server

TrueSight Presentation Server provides the framework for many features of TrueSight Capacity Optimization and TrueSight Cloud Cost Control (If licensed). It enables you to perform functions such as role-based access control and data management. TrueSight Presentation Server hosts the web-based TrueSight console.

Step 5: Install TrueSight Capacity Optimization Application Server and ETL Engine

The Application Server provides the communication bus for all other TrueSight Capacity Optimization components. It supports all analytical, modeling, and reporting tasks. The Application Server hosts the web-based TrueSight Capacity Optimization console. The ETL Engine is required for collecting data from third-party data sources or from the Gateway Server.

You can install the Application Server and ETL Engine with Oracle or PostgreSQL database. Both these options are available in wizard-based and silent modes.

You can install all or selected components of the Application Server and ETL Engine on the same computer or on additional computers for load balancing.

(Optional) Step 6: Install TrueSight Capacity Optimization Gateway Server

The Gateway Server, along with the Capacity Agents, collects data from the managed systems in your environment. A managed system is a computer on which a Capacity Agent is installed.

(Optional) Step 7: Install TrueSight Capacity Optimization Capacity Agent

A Capacity Agent collects data from the managed systems in your environment. After collecting data, the Agent transfers it to the Gateway Server.

Step 8: Complete the post-installation activities

Complete the post-installation activities to make your TrueSight Capacity Optimization product functional.

Post-installation activities include registering Capacity Optimization with the Presentation Server and registering the Gateway Server with TrueSight Capacity Optimization.

What next?

  • BMC releases periodic product updates through feature packs and fix packs. Check the  Release notes and notices section for the latest product updates and apply the ones relevant to your environment.
  • You can upgrade the security in your enterprise environment by using TLS 1.2 to communicate with the TrueSight Capacity Optimization components. To add the transport layer protection and to secure communication between the TrueSight Capacity Optimization components, enable TLS server certificate validation between the TrueSight Capacity Optimization components.
