Editing and managing task schedulers
The Schedulers administration menu enables you to manage the execution of TrueSight Capacity Optimization tasks and services responsible for scheduling tasks.
Most TrueSight Capacity Optimization activities are performed by tasks; a few examples could be golden analysis execution, enterprise reports, resource monitoring, data import, data warehousing, and so on.
There are two basic categories of tasks: System tasks and ETL tasks, which are further divided into task types. Each task is associated with a scheduler process that manages its execution and log recording.
A scheduler is always running; if for some reason it is interrupted, its task will not be executed. To check the status of TrueSight Capacity Optimization schedulers, access the Administration > SYSTEM > Status page as described in Status (System).
When a task is created, it is possible to schedule it so that the scheduler will run it at the predefined intervals, and report its execution results and logs.
There can be more than one scheduler running at any time, each managing different tasks.
The following sections describe the actions that can be carried out from the Scheduler menu:
To access the Schedulers page
From the TrueSight Capacity Optimization console, select Administration > COMPONENTS > Schedulers. This page enables you to manage scheduler services responsible for scheduling the execution of tasks.
Existing scheduler services are listed in a summary Schedulers table in the main page. For each scheduler, the summary table displays:
- Name: Name of the scheduler.
- Description: Brief description of the scheduler.
- Type: The scheduler type. For example, Primary Scheduler or Generic Scheduler.
- Host name: The name of the host it runs on.
- Status: Status of the scheduler, whether Active or Inactive.

To manage a scheduler
You can start or stop an instance of a scheduler, or see the scheduler log directly from the Schedulers table.

To edit a scheduler
To edit an existing scheduler or change its status, click the name of the scheduler.
To edit a scheduler
- In the <schedulerName> page, click Edit.
- In the Edit Scheduler instance page, update the Name and Description fields.
- Click Save.
The updated scheduler is saved and a message is displayed saying that the scheduler is successfully saved.
The updated name and description is reflected in the Schedulers table as well.
To activate a scheduler
- In the <schedulerName> page, click Activate.
To add a new scheduler
To add a new scheduler on a different host, use the BMC TrueSight Capacity Optimization installer.
