11.3.01 enhancements
TrueSight Capacity Optimization 11.3.01 offers the following key features and enhancements:
Enhanced cloud support
New Azure views
You can now view and manage the capacity of Microsoft Azure virtual machines in your business environment. The Azure views provide an overview of the available capacity, utilization, trends, and residual capacity in terms of CPU, memory, and datastore utilization for each entity.
The Recommendations tab in the Azure views lists idle and overallocated virtual machines, and provides a set of recommended actions to help you resolve any issues that are identified in your Azure cloud environment.
For more information, see Azure views.
New ETL module to import Google Cloud infrastructure data
The new Google Cloud Platform - GCP API Extractor enables you to collect configuration and performance data of your virtual machines that are provisioned in the Google Cloud Platform (GCP) provider. You can use the collected data to analyze and optimize the capacity of your Google Cloud infrastructure.

New optimization recommendations for AWS virtual machines
The new Recommendations page in the AWS EC2 Instances view lists idle and overallocated virtual machines and provides a set of recommended actions to help you resolve these efficiency issues and reduce your costs.
The idle VM recommendation identifies unused VMs and suggests termination of the VMs and associated storage volumes.
The overallocated VM recommendation identifies VMs with underutilized resources and suggests ideal instance types for the VMs.
If you have installed TrueSight Cloud Cost Control, you can also view the estimated cost savings (in $) that can be achieved by implementing the recommendations. For more information, see Recommendations page in the vSphere Infrastructure view.
Enhancements to capacity views
Vsphere views
- The existing recommendations for idle virtual machines (VMs) and overallocated VMs are enhanced to provide you with specific recommended actions to resolve the issue, avoid wastage, and reduce costs.
If you have installed TrueSight Cloud Cost Control, you can also view the estimated cost savings (in $) that can be achieved by implementing the recommendations. For more information, see Recommendations page in the vSphere Infrastructure view. - The enhanced Overallocated VMs page in the vSphere Virtual Machines view now provides rightsizing recommendations for virtual CPUs, memory, and file systems of VMs.
Hyper-V views
The new Recommendations page in the Hyper-V Overview view provides a set of recommended actions to handle the virtual machines that are idle, overallocated, or have saturating resources. If you have installed TrueSight Cloud Cost Control, you can also view the estimated cost savings (in $) that can be achieved by implementing the recommendations.
Capacity Pools view
You can now sort the capacity pools based on the Usage, Risk, or Efficiency score in the ascending or descending order.
New Sunburst custom view template
Use the new, easy-to-configure, out-of-the-box Sunburst view page template to define custom views. This visualization template displays data in a hierarchical structure, as a set of concentric circles. The innermost circle represents the root entity, with the hierarchy moving outward from the center node. The child levels are layered around within the angular sweep of the parent node.
For more information, see Configuring the Sunburst template.
Enhancements to custom view templates
The following custom view templates are enhanced to support new configuration options:
Custom view template | Enhancement |
---|---|
Table configuration:
Filter configuration:
| |
Configure up to 20 filters in a view page. | |
|
Domain filter configuration enhancements
You can now perform the following configurations in the domain filter of a custom view:
- Specify a system type to show domains that contain systems of the selected system type.
- Specify a root domain to view only the configured root domain and its subdomains.
- Mark the filtered domain or any of its subdomains as a default domain. You can also restrict the capacity view user from changing the default domain by applying the lock.
System type filter enhancement
You can now select multiple system types from the filter to show data for the selected system types. For more information, see Using filtering options in the TrueSight console.
Time filter enhancement
The time filter now provides additional out-of-the-box time intervals for selection. For example, Last 30 days, Last 12 months, and so on. For more information, see Using filtering options in the TrueSight console.
Enhancement to the Capacity Agent
The Capacity Agent is now enhanced to collect data at a greater granularity (every one second). You can configure the Capacity Agent for one-second data collection.
You can then use the granular data in the Investigate tool to better analyze and troubleshoot the capacity and performance issues in your systems. For more information, see Investigating capacity and performance issues in systems.
Support for Dynatrace
The new Dynatrace ETL module supports data collection from the Dynatrace software intelligence solution.
The integration imports the following data and enables you to use the corresponding capabilities:
- Business transactions defined within the Dynatrace platform: To build business-aware capacity models and forecast future business volumes
- Application topology discovered by Dynatrace: To increase the capacity management process efficiency with up-to-date application structure available for analysis and models
- Service and Process Groups discovered by Dynatrace: To analyze the targeted capacity of key application architecture components, such as Web and Application servers.
- PostgreSQL and MySQL databases and technology-specific metrics: To analyze the capacity of popular open-source databases
The integration supports the Dynatrace SaaS offering and leverages the official Dynatrace REST APIs for data extraction. For more information, see Moviri Integrator for TrueSight Capacity Optimization - Dynatrace.
Enhanced support for storage
New platform support
The Sentry ETL modules and Storage views now support Dell EMC Elastic Cloud Storage (ECS).
With the new Dell EMC Elastic Cloud Storage REST API Extractor, you can collect metrics from the Dell EMC REST API for performing critical capacity optimization tasks, such as analysis, trending, simulation, and analytic modeling. For more information, see Dell EMC Elastic Cloud Storage (ECS) ETL for TrueSight Capacity Optimization.
You can now view and manage the capacity of all the Dell EMC ECS storage systems available in your environment through the Storage Systems view. To quickly identify unused volumes, new operators, such as “equals”, “greater than”, and so on, are added to the Time Since Last Activity Column of the Storage Volumes page in the Storage Systems view. For more information, see Storage views.
