We are no longer updating the individual documentation spaces for these components. For the latest documentation, see BMC AMI Backup and Recovery for IMS 5.2.

FSE keyword

The FSE keyword specifies whether to clear free space elements (FSEs) to binary zeros before performing compression on an output image copy.

This keyword is valid only if the BMC Image Copy utility is installed and licensed.

When you use FSE, you also specify COMP(Y) and ALG(2) or ALG(3). FSE is ignored if no compression is being done, or if you use FSE elimination by specifying ALG(1).

Related topics

If you specify either ALG(2) for common character compression, or ALG(3), for full character compression, and you also specify FSE(Y), FSEs are cleared to binary zeros prior to compression. If any logical or physical orphans exist in an FSE, they are lost. However, clearing FSEs significantly reduces the amount of output data.
