Verifying server group configuration

To verify the server group configuration, complete the following tasks on all the servers in the server group:

  1. Open the <ARSystemInstallDir>\ARSystem\Conf\ar.cfg file in a text editor.
  2. Check for an entry called Server-Name. If it exists, verify that it is set to a name that resolves to your load balancer. If it is not, modify the value to the name that resolves to your load balancer. If the entry does not exist, create it, and set it accordingly. For example, RemedyServerGroup.
  3. Check for an entry called Server-Connect-Name. If the entry exists, verify that on the primary server it is set to the name of the primary server. If it is not set, modify the value to point to the primary server. Similarly, for other servers, ensure that Server-Connect-Name points to the respective server. If the entry does not exist, create it, and set it accordingly. For example, the name of the primary AR System server is svr_grp_tst0 and the name of the secondary server is svr_grp_tst1.
  4. Check for an entry called Configuration-Name. In a server group, this entry acts as a differentiator.  If the entry exists, verify that on the primary server it is set to the name of the primary server. If it is not set, modify the value to point to the primary server. Similarly, for other servers, ensure that Configuration-Name points to the respective server. If the entry does not exist, create it, and set it accordingly. For example, the name of the primary AR System server is svr_grp_tst0 and the name of the secondary server is svr_grp_tst1.
  5. Check for an entry called Domain-Name. If it exists, verify that it is set to the domain that resolves to the load balancer when the Server-Name and Domain-Name are concatenated. If it is not, modify the value so that it resolves to the load balancer. If the entry does not exist, create it, and set it accordingly. In the installation example, if the fully qualified host name that resolves to the load balancer is test.svgroup.com, then Server-Name should be test, and Domain-Name should be svgroup.com.
  6. Create an IP-Name entry for every possible way a client could connect to all of the servers in the server group.
  7. Copy and paste the servers from your server list.
  8. Create the same number of entries for each of your AR System servers.
  9. Save the ar.cfg file.
  10. Complete these settings on all the servers.
  11. Restart all the AR servers.
  12. In a browser, open the AR System Server Group Operation Ranking form:
    http://<midTierServer>:<portNumber>/arsys/forms/
    <ARSystemServer>/AR+System+Server+Group+Operation+Ranking/
  13. Clean up all the old Server-Name entries, and update the ranking order for the Server-Connect-Name entries.
