Encrypting passwords using the BMC Atrium Core Maintenance Tool

BMC recommends that you use an encrypted password in place of the actual AR System server password. The BMC Atrium Core Maintenance Tool allows you to encrypt the AR System server password. You must use this encrypted password in the Atrium-ini-template file while installing BMC Atrium Core in silent mode.

To encrypt a password for a silent installation

  1. Go to the BMC Atrium Core installation folder.
  2. Open command prompt and run the following command:

    AtriumCoreMaintenanceTool.cmd -silent -encrypt -encrypt -password=<password> -confirm_password=<password>

For UNIX, run the AtriumCoreMaintenanceTool.sh file.

  3. Copy and paste the encrypted password into the Atrium-ini-template file the located at <AtriumInstallerDirectory>\Disk1\utility against the following option:
    -J BMC_AR_PASSWORD

For example, if you  encrypt the BMC Atrium Core password and the output is DES\:b76c59dbc2e1433c7a9c2f006a2e2429116840dce695aea9, update the Atrium-ini-template file as follows:
    # -J BMC_AR_PASSWORD=DES\:b76c59dbc2e1433c7a9c2f006a2e2429116840dce695aea9
