BMC Service Level Management checks

This topic covers information on the checks performed by the BMC Remedy Configuration Check utility for BMC Service Level Management. It also describes the expected results of the checks and corrective actions to be taken if a check fails.

BMC recommends that you run all the pre-upgrade checks before you upgrade to a higher version. If you encounter any error or warning, address the issue as it may prevent a successful upgrade.

The following checks are included:

AR Server Group Check for SLM

DescriptionThis check validates the BMC Remedy Action Request (AR) System server configuration for a server group environment. It verifies whether the environment is in compliance with the known information about the BMC Remedy AR System server targeted for installation.

Check performed and expected result

If the name of the primary server is specified in the AR System Server Group Operation Ranking form, it confirms that a server group exists and the check is successful.

If the name of the primary server is not specified in the AR System Server Group Operation Ranking form, the primary server is not a part of the server group and the check fails.

Corrective Action

Obtain the correct server group listing and specify the name of the primary server in the AR System Server Group Operation Ranking form and restart all AR System servers in the server group. If the server is not a part of server group, no corrective action is required.

AR Server License Check for SLM

DescriptionThis check validates the BMC Remedy AR System server license.
TypePre-upgrade check
Check performed and expected resultIf the license of the BMC Remedy AR System server is valid, the check is successful. Otherwise, the check fails and displays an error message.
Corrective Action

If application licenses are missing, acquire required licenses from BMC Support and apply on the target BMC Remedy AR System server through AR System Administration Console > Add or Remove License.

AR Server Version Check for SLM

Description

This check verifies whether BMC Remedy AR System server is at version 9.1.

Check performed and expected result

If BMC Remedy AR System server is at version 9.1, the check is successful. Otherwise, the check fails and displays an error message.

Corrective ActionUpgrade BMC Remedy AR System server to version 9.1.

ITSM Version Check for SLM

Description

This check verifies whether BMC Remedy ITSM is at version 9.1.

Check performed and expected resultIf BMC Remedy ITSM is at version 9.1, the check is successful. Otherwise, the check fails check fails and displays an error message.
Corrective ActionUpgrade BMC Remedy ITSM to version 9.1.

Atrium Version Check for SLM

Description

This check verifies whether BMC Atrium Core is at version 9.1.

Corrective ActionUpgrade BMC Atrium Core to version 9.1.

Description

This check verifies whether Atrium Integrator is at version 9.1.

Check performed and expected resultIf Atrium Integrator is at version 9.1, the check is successful. Otherwise, the check fails and displays an error message.

BPPM CMDB Extensions Check for SLM

Description

This check verifies whether BMC TrueSight Operations Management CMDB Extensions is at version 9.1.

Check performed and expected resultIf BMC TrueSight Operations Management CMDB Extensions is at version 9.1, the check is successful. Otherwise, the check fails check fails and displays an error message.
Corrective ActionUpgrade BMC TrueSight Operations Management CMDB Extensions to version 9.1.

SLM Application License Check

DescriptionThis check verifies whether the BMC Service Level Management application is licensed on the target server.
TypePre-upgrade check
Check performed and expected resultIf the BMC Service Level Management application is licensed on the target system, the check is successful.
Otherwise, the check fails
check fails and displays an error message.
Corrective ActionObtain and import BMC Service Level Management license.

Temp Space Availability Check for SLM

DescriptionThis check verifies whether sufficient temporary space is available for the installation to run.
TypePre-upgrade check
Check performed and expected resultIf the temporary space available is more than 2 GB, the check is successful. Otherwise, the check fails and displays an error message. 
Corrective Action
  • If the check fails due to insufficient temporary space, free up 1.5 GB or more space on the partition.
  • If the check fails because the path of the Temp directory was not provided, provide the Temp directory path, and then rerun the check.
