Creating an Options.txt file for installing BMC Atrium Core using silent mode

Before running the silent installer, you must create the Options.txt file to specify the installation parameters that will be used by the silent installer. Use the AtriumCore-ini-template.txt file as a reference while creating the Options.txt file.

To create the Options.txt file, see the following topics:

To create an Options.txt file

  1. Create a text file called Options.txt
  2. Update the Options.txt file based on the AtriumCore-ini-template.txt file available at the following location:
    <Atrium Install directory>/AtriumCore/Disk1/utility
See Options for the Options.txt file.
    1. Set installer properties for the features that you are installing.
    2. Update the feature parameters information as specified in the planning spreadsheet.

      Note

Remove the comment (#) markers before the saving the Options.txt file.

    3. Save the file.

Options for the Options.txt file

The following table lists the different options you must use in the Options.txt file. For examples and detailed usage of each option, see AtriumCore-ini-template.txt file snippet.

Option

Description

-P

Sets the installation directory for a product.

-A

Specifies the products and features that you want to install. The product and feature names are listed at the top of the AtriumCore-ini-template.txt file. To install more than one product or feature, include the -A line for each.

-J

Specifies Java properties that correspond to user inputs.

While preparing the Options.txt file, consider the following:

  • For a fresh installation, you must specify:
    -J USER_SELECTED_INSTALL_MODE=<FRESH>
  • For an upgrade, you must specify:
    -J USER_SELECTED_INSTALL_MODE=<UPGRADE>
  • To install BMC Atrium CMDB in a server group environment, you must create separate Options.txt files on the primary server and then on the secondary server.
  • To use an encrypted password, use the -J BMC_AR_PASSWORD option. To encrypt your password, see Encrypting passwords using the BMC Atrium Core Maintenance Tool.
