Capturing a snapshot of your current environment
As a part of the upgrade process, you must take a snapshot of your current server before upgrading it so that you can compare it later with the upgraded server for reconciliation.
- Open BMC Remedy Developer Studio with your current server (old definitions).
- In the AR System Navigator, right-click the server name and click Capture Snapshot.
Enter or browse to the path and the XML file that you want to use to create the snapshot.
If the file does not exist, it is created automatically.
- Click Finish.
The snapshot of your existing production server is created. You can use this snapshot for comparing objects for reconciliation after upgrade. For information about how to compare snapshots by using Developer Studio, see Reviewing the Objects to Reconcile list.
You can also use snapshots to compare customizations that you have done in your latest version. For example, after upgrading to BMC Remedy AR System 9.0, you might want to take a snapshot of your latest production server and use this snapshot to compare the customizations that you make after applying a hotfix, patch, or service pack.
The Capture Snapshot feature is not available for BMC Remedy Developer studio versions 7.6.04 through 8.1.02.
You must either:
- Install BMC Remedy Developer studio version 9.0.
- Install the snapshot plug-in for version 7.6.04 to version 8.1.02. You can find the installer at the following location:
