BMC Service Request Management checks

This topic covers information on the prechecks performed by the BMC Remedy Configuration Check utility for BMC Service Request Management. It also describes the expected results of the checks and corrective actions to be taken if a check fails.

BMC recommends that you run all the pre-upgrade checks before you upgrade to a higher version. If you encounter any error or warning, address the issue as it may prevent a successful upgrade.

The following checks are included:

AR Server Version Check for SRM

Description

This checks verifies whether BMC Remedy AR System server is at version 9.0.

Type(Version 9.0 or later) pre-upgrade check
Checks performed and expected result
  • If BMC Remedy AR System server is at version 9.0, the check is successful. Otherwise, the check fails and displays an error message.
  • If any of the listed applications is not present on the target system, check does not run, and it returns a warning about a precondition.
Corrective Action

Before you install or upgrade BMC Service Request Management 9.0, ensure that BMC Remedy AR System server 9.0 is installed on the target system.

Approval Server Version Check for SRM

Description

This checks verifies whether BMC Remedy Approval Server is at version 9.0.

Type(Version 9.0 or later) pre-upgrade check
Checks performed and expected result

The following validations are performed:

  • If the version of BMC Remedy Approval Server is version 9.0, the check is successful. Otherwise, the check fails and displays an error message.
  • If BMC Remedy Approval Server is not present on the target system, the check does not run, and it returns a warning about a precondition.
Corrective Action

Before you install or upgrade BMC Service Request Management 9.0, ensure that BMC Remedy Approval Server 9.0 is installed on the target system.

Assignment Engine Version Check for SRM

Description

This checks verifies whether BMC Remedy Assignment Engine is at version 9.0.

Type(Version 9.0 or later) pre-upgrade check
Checks performed and expected result
  • If BMC Remedy Assignment Engine is at version 9.0, the check is successful. Otherwise, the check fails and displays an error message.
  • If BMC Remedy Assignment Engine is not present on the target system, the check does not run, and it returns a warning about a precondition.
Corrective Action

Before you install or upgrade BMC Service Request Management 9.0, ensure that BMC Remedy Assignment Engine 9.0 is installed on the target system.

Install Space Availability Check for SRM

Description

This check verifies whether the required space is available on the partition on which you want to install BMC Service Request Management. A minimum of 4.5 GB free space is required.

Note: 

You must provide the partition name to this check as an input in one of the following ways:

  • Run the PATH command in interactive command-line mode.
  • Enter the path in the Temp Dir field in GUI mode.
  • Set the <tempDir> variable in the configuration file (configchecker_config.xml).
Type(Version 9.0 or later) pre-upgrade check
Check performed and expected result

If 4.5 GB or more free space is available, the check is successful. Otherwise, the check fails and displays an error message.

Corrective ActionFree up 4.5 GB or more space on the partition.

PD Version Check for SRM

Description

(Version 9.0 or later) This check verifies whether BMC Remedy ITSM Process Designer is installed on the target computer is at version 9.0.

Type(Version 9.0 or later) pre-upgrade check; configuration check
Checks performed and expected result
  • If BMC Remedy ITSM Process Designer installed on the target computer is at version 9.0, the check is successful.
  • If BMC Remedy ITSM Process Designer is not installed, the check is successful.
  • If BMC Remedy ITSM Process Designer installed on the target computer is at version 8.3.03 or 8.3.04, the check fails and displays an error message.
Corrective actionUpgrade BMC Remedy ITSM Process Designer on the target computer to version 9.0.

Product Catalog Version Check for SRM

DescriptionThis checks verifies whether Product Catalog is at version 9.0.
Type(Version 9.0 or later) pre-upgrade check
Checks performed and expected result
  • If the Product Catalog on the target server is at version 9.0, the check is successful. Otherwise, the check fails and displays an error message.
  • If Product Catalog is not present on the target system, the check does not run and returns a warning about a precondition.
Corrective ActionBefore you install or upgrade BMC Service Request Management 9.0, ensure that Product Catalog 9.0 is installed on the target system.

RAM Availability Check for SRM

DescriptionThis check validates the available physical memory (the RAM) required for BMC Service Request Management installation. A minimum of 3 GB of physical memory is required.
Type(Version 9.0 or later) pre-upgrade check
Check performed and expected result

If the available RAM is 3 GB or more, the check is successful. Otherwise, the check fails and returns and error message that lists the required memory and the available memory.

Corrective ActionIncrease the physical memory to 3 GB or more.

SRM Application License Check

Description

This check validates the license for following:

  • BMC Remedy Action Request System server
  • BMC Service Request Management
  • BMC:Financial Mgmt Application
Type(Version 9.0 or later) pre-upgrade check
Check performed and expected result

If the BMC Remedy AR System server has a valid license for given applications, the check is successful. Otherwise, the check fails and returns an error message that lists the names of applications that do not have valid licenses.

Corrective ActionAcquire the required license from BMC and apply it on the target BMC Remedy AR System server from AR System Administration Console > Add or Remove License.

Temp Space Availability Check for SRM

Description

This check validates the temporary space available for the partition. A minimum of 1.5 GB free temporary space is required. 

Note: 

You must provide the path of the Temp directory to this check as an input in one of the following ways:

  • Run the PATH command in interactive command-line mode.
  • Enter the path in the Temp Dir field in GUI mode.
  • Set the <tempDir> variable in the configuration file (configchecker_config.xml).
Type(Version 9.0 or later) pre-upgrade check
Check performed and expected result

If available free space is at least 1.5 GB, the check is successful. Otherwise, the check fails and displays an error message.

Corrective ActionFree up 1.5 GB or more space on the partition.
