BMC Service Level Management checks

This topic covers information on the checks performed by the BMC Remedy Configuration Check utility for BMC Service Level Management. It also describes the expected results of the checks and corrective actions to be taken if a check fails.

BMC recommends that you run all the pre-upgrade checks before you upgrade to a higher version. If you encounter any error or warning, address the issue as it may prevent a successful upgrade.

The following checks are included:

AR Server Group Check for SLM

DescriptionThis check validates the BMC Remedy Action Request (AR) System server configuration for a server group environment. It verifies whether the environment is in compliance with the known information about the BMC Remedy AR System server targeted for installation.
Type

(Version 9.0) pre-upgrade check

(Version 9.0 SP1) configuration check 

Check performed and expected resultThe check reports information about the existence of a server group environment.
Corrective ActionNo corrective action.

AR Server License Check for SLM

DescriptionThis check validates the BMC Remedy AR System server license.
Type(Version 9.0 or later) pre-upgrade check
Check performed and expected resultIf the license of the BMC Remedy AR System server is valid, the check is successful. Otherwise, the check fails and displays an error message.
Corrective ActionObtain and import a valid AR System server license.

AR Server Version Check for SLM

Description

This checks verifies whether BMC Remedy AR System server is at version 9.0.

Type(Version 9.0 or later) pre-upgrade check
Check performed and expected result

If BMC Remedy AR System server is at version 9.0, the check is successful. Otherwise, the check fails and displays an error message.

Corrective ActionUpgrade BMC Remedy AR System server to version 9.0.

ITSM Version Check for SLM

Description

This checks verifies whether BMC Remedy ITSM is at version 9.0.

Type(Version 9.0 or later) pre-upgrade check
Check performed and expected resultIf BMC Remedy ITSM is at version 9.0, the check is successful. Otherwise, the check fails check fails and displays an error message.
Corrective ActionUpgrade BMC Remedy ITSM to version 9.0.

Atrium Version Check for SLM

Description

This checks verifies whether BMC Atrium Core is at version 9.0.

Type(Version 9.0 or later) pre-upgrade check
Check performed and expected resultIf BMC Atrium Core is at version 9.0, the check is successful. Otherwise, the check fails and displays an error message.
Corrective ActionUpgrade BMC Atrium Core to version 9.0.

Description

This checks verifies whether Atrium Integrator is at version 9.0.

Check performed and expected resultIf Atrium Integrator is at version 9.0, the check is successful. Otherwise, the check fails and displays an error message.
Corrective ActionUpgrade Atrium Integrator to version 9.0.

BPPM CMDB Extensions Check for SLM

Description

This checks verifies whether BMC ProactiveNet Performance Management CMDB Extensions is at version 9.0.

Type(Version 9.0 or later) pre-upgrade check
Check performed and expected resultIf BMC ProactiveNet Performance Management CMDB Extensions is at version 9.0, the check is successful. Otherwise, the check fails check fails and displays an error message.
Corrective ActionUpgrade BMC ProactiveNet Performance Management CMDB Extensions to version 9.0.

SLM Application License Check

DescriptionThis check verifies whether the BMC Service Level Management application is licensed on the target system.
Type(Version 9.0 or later) pre-upgrade check
Check performed and expected resultIf the BMC Service Level Management application is licensed on the target system, the check is successful.
Otherwise, the check fails
check fails and displays an error message.
Corrective ActionObtain and import BMC Service Level Management license.

Temp Space Availability Check for SLM

DescriptionThis check verifies whether sufficient temporary space is available for the installation to run.
Type(Version 9.0 or later) pre-upgrade check
Check performed and expected resultIf the temporary space available is more than 2 GB, the check is successful. Otherwise, the check fails and displays an error message. 
Corrective ActionRedefine the tmp or temp variable, or clear some space on the temp directory.
