Collecting logs, diagnostics and performing system health check using the Maintenance Tool

The Maintenance Tool is a common product diagnostic utility that is included when you install any of the platform or application components from the BMC Remedy IT Service Management (ITSM) Suite. This topic gives you an overview of the Maintenance Tool and information about its installation and upgrade specific functions.

Overview of the Maintenance Tool

A separate Maintenance tool is available for each component in the BMC Remedy ITSM Suite. Most common functionalities provided by the different Maintenance Tools are as follows:

  • Viewing installation and uninstallation log files using the log viewer .
  • Collecting diagnostics in a zip file using the Log Zipper and viewing the Log Zipper output file.
  • Running a system health check to validate if all the selected system components are installed successfully.
  • Encrypting the password for silent installation.

Note

The functionality provided by each Maintenance Tool varies as per the needs of the component. Some functionalities listed above are not be applicable for the Maintenance Tool of a particular component. Whereas, some of the Maintenance Tools have additional functionalities, which are not documented here.This topic provides information on the installation and upgrade specific functionalities of the various Maintenance Tools.
