Performing the BMC Remedy AR System client upgrades
Perform the steps in this topic to upgrade the following components with the interface-based BMC Remedy AR System server installer:
- BMC Remedy Developer Studio (and the Localization Toolkit)
- BMC Remedy Data Import
- Atrium Integrator Spoon
Before you begin
If you have not done so already, do one of the following to prepare the server group for upgrade:
- Preparing the AR System server for a server group upgrade - Perform these steps when you are performing a staged upgrade or plan to upgrade the server group during a scheduled outage window.
- Preparing for an in-place, zero-downtime upgrade of the platform - If you want to upgrade the platform components that are a part of a server group environment with no scheduled outage, you must perform pre-configuration steps on the primary and secondary servers prior to upgrade.
If you have not done so already, prepare the system to run the installers. If you want to run in nonadmin mode on Windows, see Preparing a Windows environment. If you want to run in nonroot mode on UNIX, see Preparing a UNIX environment.

Patches are not full installations and must be applied over the latest full installation (main release or a service pack).
Updating external Developer Studio plug-ins
When you upgrade BMC Remedy Developer Studio, the installer performs the following actions:
- Moves the previous Developer Studio files to a DeveloperStudioBackup folder. (This includes workspaces and external plug-ins.)
- Places the new binaries in the DeveloperStudio folder.
- Copies workspaces from the DeveloperStudioBackup folder to the DeveloperStudio folder.
External Developer Studio plug-ins that you configured before the upgrade are not copied to the DeveloperStudio folder.
To ensure that the correct plug-ins are in the DeveloperStudio folder
Manually copy external Developer Studio plug-ins from the DeveloperStudioBackup folder to the DeveloperStudio folder.
