Preparing your system to install the BMC Remedy AR System database and server

The BMC Remedy AR System installer prompts you to enter information about the BMC Remedy AR System database, which the installer creates during the installation. This database contains the BMC Remedy AR System server forms and field definitions and stores workflow data, structures, and permissions. 

BMC Remedy AR System supports the following databases:

• Microsoft SQL.
  The installer selects Microsoft SQL Server by default. For information about configuring the Microsoft SQL Server, see Configuring the Microsoft SQL Server.
• Oracle.
  For information about configuring the Oracle database, see Configuring Oracle databases.

To prepare your system to install the BMC Remedy AR System database and server

1. Back up your database and file system before you install.
   If you are upgrading, back up your data, object definitions, and applications.

2. Verify that you have installed Microsoft Visual C++ 2008 SP1 Redistributable Package (64-bit)

   Note

   The installer checks whether Microsoft Visual C++ 2008 SP1 Redistributable Package (64-bit) is installed. If this version is not present, the installer installs the required version.
