Encrypting passwords using the BMC Remedy ITSM Process Designer Maintenance Tool

BMC recommends that you use an encrypted password in place of the actual AR System server password. The BMC Remedy ITSM Process Designer Maintenance Tool allows you to encrypt the AR System server password. You must use this encrypted password in the Options.txt file while installing BMC Remedy ITSM Process Designer in silent mode.

To encrypt a password for a silent installation

  1. Open the BMC Remedy ITSM Process Designer Maintenance Tool.
    • On Windows, go to your installation directory and double-click ProcessDesignerMaintenanceTool.cmd.
    • On UNIX, go to your installation directory and run
      ./ProcessDesignerMaintenanceTool.sh.
  2. Click the Encrypt tab.
  3. Enter your password in the Password field and the Confirm Password field.
  4. Click Encrypt.
  5. Copy and paste the encrypted password into the Options.txt file against the following option:
    -J BMC_AR_PASSWORD
    For example, if you  encrypt the BMC Remedy ITSM Process Designer password and the output isDES\:b76c59dbc2e1433c7a9c2f006a2e2429116840dce695aea9
    Update the Options.txt file as follows:
    # -J BMC_AR_PASSWORD=DES\:b76c59dbc2e1433c7a9c2f006a2e2429116840dce695aea9
