Requirements and considerations (Automatic Restart)

The following requirements and considerations apply to use of the Automatic Restart feature:

  • The Automatic Restart feature supports all types of image copies (as obtained through the IC, AIC, OIC, AOIC, CIC, IIC, and other commands).
  • The Automatic Restart feature supports stacking of output image copy data sets through use of the STKIC keyword or STACK control statement. Stacking with DD statements in the job step JCL is not supported.
  • Do not specify NOTIFY(D). DBRC notifications must be done at the successful completion of each task and should not be deferred until the end of the job.
  • The EXEC statement in the job step JCL must specify PGM=ICPUMAIN. The use of PGM=DFSRRC00 or PGM=DFSUDMP0 (IBM-compatible mode) is not supported.
  • If the utility is producing Snapshot Copies or Instant Snapshot copies through SNAPSHOT UPGRADE FEATURE (SUF), the image copy tasks within the job step are treated as a group. If application updates occur during the image copy process and a non-recoverable SUF error (such as a cache failure) occurs, SUF marks all of the image copies in the group as nonrecoverable; a message is issued to inform you that the job cannot be restarted. If you resubmit this job, a message is issued to inform you that the previous execution experienced a nonrecoverable error. If you resubmit this job again, the job is cold-started.
