Fuzzy image copies

A fuzzy image copy can occur when updates are made to a database while the image copy job is running.

Recovery of a database using a fuzzy image copy requires a change accumulation or log tape containing the changes made during and after the fuzzy image copy was taken. A fuzzy image copy is recorded in DBRC as either an online image copy or a concurrent image copy, as appropriate. For more information, see RECOVCTL-versus-SHARECTL.

The same restrictions that apply to using an image copy data set generated by the IMS Online Image Copy and Concurrent Image Copy utilities apply to a fuzzy image copy that is generated by the BMC Image Copy utility. When fuzzy image copies are used as input to pointer analyzers, the analyzer may indicate that database pointer errors exist if update processing was done during the image copy process. The Online Image Copy function flags the copies as online copies, and DBRC treats them as fuzzy. The Incremental Image Copy function flags the copies as online fuzzy copies when the timestamp does not represent a valid timestamp recovery point.
