Version 2.2.00.002

This topic contains information about updates in patch 2 (product version 2.2.00.002) and provides instructions for downloading and installing the patch. The topic includes the following sections:

Contents of the patch

This patch consists of the following improvements:

SuSE patching

The Threat Director and Vulnerability Manager capabilities in BladeLogic Portal now support Remediation operations for the SuSE 11 and 12 operating systems.

This version of BladeLogic Portal now supports the SuSE 12 operating system when creating Patch Analysis operations. In older releases Patch Analysis operations already supported SuSE 11.

Patch Analysis operation wizard

The behavior of the Patches page of the Patch Analysis operation wizard has changed:

  • A Patch Analysis operation can now be run against an entire patching catalog. When you select a patch catalog on the Patches page, the Next and Finish buttons become enabled. Previously, the Patch Analysis operation wizard required you to select at least one include or exclude. That requirement no longer exists.
  • When you open a patch group, no contents are displayed until you search for particular patches. To show all patches in the selected patch group, leave the search box empty and click Search .
  • Patches are only displayed for one patch group at a time.
  • The user interaction for including or excluding a particular patch has changed. Now you click Include , Exclude , or Cancel . Previously, you used sliders to include or exclude individual patches. You still use sliders to include or exclude patch groups.

For detailed information, see Creating an operation - Patches.

PKI support

This version of BladeLogic Portal supports the use of public key infrastructure (PKI) to authenticate users who present a type of smart card known as a common access card (CAC) or who have imported a valid client certificate into their browser.

To enable PKI authentication, configuration is needed after installation or upgrade.

After PKI is enabled, when users log onto BladeLogic Portal, they only have to choose a BMC Server Automation site that is configured for PKI and they must enter a PIN if their certificate requires one. No user ID and password are necessary.

PKI support was initially made available in version 2.2.00.001 but that patch was provided to a limited number of organizations and was not posted to the BMC Electronic Product Distribution website.

Installing the patch as a fresh product installation

After downloading the patch installation file using the procedure described above, perform a fresh installation by following the instructions in Installing.

Upgrading to the patch

After downloading the patch installation file using the procedure described above, the steps needed to upgrade depend on your current version and the configuration of your current deployment. The following table lists the possible paths. Note that the primary difference between a compact deployment and a small, medium, or large deployment is that a compact deployment installs the BladeLogic Portal server and the DCA Index Server on the same machine, while all other configurations install a DCA Index Server on a separate machine.

The upgrade procedure for a stand-alone DCA Index Server is new in this version because a DCA Index Server-only installation was not available in versions before BladeLogic Portal 2.2.00.

No upgrade is provided for BladeLogic Portal versions older than 2.1.00.
