Portal users are automatically created the first time they log on to BladeLogic Portal. If a portal user is a member of more than one portal security group, the user inherits the combined rights of all those groups.
Typically, portal users do not need to be aware of their membership in portal security groups. The one action in the portal that does expose users to portal security groups is the creation of a new operation. In this case, the portal asks the user which portal security group they would like to use when creating the operation.
When connected to BMC Server Automation, selection of a portal security group when you define an operation also defines the BSA role for which any other jobs that are automatically created. Portal security group selection also can define default job and depot folders and Deploy job templates.
When connected to BMC Network Automation, selection of a portal security group when you define an operation also defines the realm.
