Logging on as administrator for the first time

After the portal is installed, the portal administrator should log on and perform initial configuration.

The initial logon must be performed by a user from the BLAdmins role in BMC Server Automation or a user with rights to the Default realm in BMC Network Automation. The user authenticates with the credentials that were specified during installation. Typically, in BMC Server Automation, this user is BLAdmin or a user belonging to a role granted permissions equivalent to BLAdmins. For BMC Network Automation, the initial user is typically sysadmin. The initial user's role (for BSA) or realm (for BNA) is configured to be the default portal security group for portal administrators.

BladeLogic Portal introduces support for PKI authentication. To enable PKI authentication, additional configuration is necessary. When that configuration is complete, the user interactions for accessing the portal are different than for other forms of authentication, as described in To access the portal using PKI authentication. PKI is only supported for a BMC Server Automation site; it is not supported for BMC Network Automation.

To log on as administrator

  1. Using any supported browser, access this URL:

server_name is the fully qualified name of the server hosting BladeLogic Portal
portal_port is the port used to communicate with BladeLogic Portal. The default value for an HTTP port is 8080. The default for HTTPS is 8443.
  2. In the login dialog box, for Login and Password, enter a BMC Server Automation user name and password.

If you are using domain authentication and your organization has not defined a default domain, your user ID must include domain information. Enter the domain by using the following format:

where sub1.dev.mycompany.com is a fully qualified domain name.

  3. When accessing BMC Server Automation only: For Authentication Method, select one of the following approaches to authentication:

Secure Remote Password—Users authenticate against a registry of authorized users maintained in the central BMC Server Automation Application Server's database. User information is derived from the RBAC utility in the BMC Server Automation. For more details, see Secure remote password authentication in the documentation for BMC Server Automation.
Domain Authentication—Users authenticate by providing a name, domain, and password. For more details, see Domain authentication in the documentation for BMC Server Automation.
RSA SecurID—Users authenticate by providing a user name and passcode. The passcode consists of a PIN and the current token code, which is obtained from an RSA SecurID token. For more details, see RSA SecurID authentication in the documentation for BMC Server Automation.
LDAP Authentication—Users authenticate by providing an LDAP distinguished name and password. For more details, see Lightweight Directory Access Protocol authentication in the documentation for BMC Server Automation.

To log on as administrator using PKI authentication

This procedure applies to version or later.

Some system configuration is required to enable PKI authentication. See Configuring the portal for PKI authentication for details.

To use PKI authentication, you must import a valid client certificate into your browser or you must be using the browser on a machine that is configured for a smart card logon.

  1. Using any supported browser, access this URL:

server_name  is the fully qualified name of the server hosting BladeLogic Portal.
portal_port is the port used to communicate with BladeLogic Portal. The default value for an HTTPS port is 8443.
  2. If you have not already selected a certificate, you are prompted to select one. Choose the certificate that applies to BladeLogic Portal.

  3. If the certificate requires a PIN, enter the PIN.
  4. In the login dialog box, for Site, select the site to which you want to connect.
The site must be an installation of BMC Server Automation that is configured for PKI.

  5. Click Sign In

    The home page opens.

Where to go next

After logging on the first time, the initial user can access all portal administration features. The initial user can:

Users that are members of the portal administration group have access to the Administration tab, which provides access to administrative functions for the portal.
