Example of creating a Provisioning operation

This example demonstrates how to create a simple Provisioning operation.

For each step of the process, the following example describes one method of entering data. Usually, there are many possible approaches. For a complete description of all possible options, see Creating a Provisioning operation.

To create an example Provisioning operation

  1. On the operations list page, click the Provisioning drop-down list and select VMware.
    1. For Name, assign a name to the operation.
    2. For Description, enter some descriptive text.
    3. For Site Instance, select the site where you want to create the operation and the role under which you are creating it. This option is only available if you are assigned to more than one role. If you are assigned to only one role, that role becomes the default for this option and you cannot edit it.

  2. Click Next.
    The Content page opens.
    1. For Job Group, click Browse and navigate to a job folder in BMC Server Automation. This example uses /Jobs/Scale DISA Group.
A jobs folders stores jobs that the portal creates. Often, an administrator defines a default job folder for your site or your portal security group. In that case, you do not have to specify a job folder.
    2. Click the Search tab if it is not already selected.
    3. Search for content by entering a text string in the Search Content text box. Then click Search .
This example searches for the string W2K8.

    4. In the list of possible Virtual Guest Packages, select a package to use as the basis of a Provisioning job.
The system prompts you for a job group where it can save a job generated by this operation.

    5. Select a job group and click OK.
  3. Click Next.
    The System Info page opens.

    1. For Virtual Machine Name, enter the name of the VM to be provisioned.
    2. For Target for Virtual Machine, enter the location on the vCenter server that functions as the target where the VM is to be provisioned. You can select a cluster, a resource pool, or a host.
  4. Click Execute Now. The Provisioning operation appears on the operations list and begins to run.
