Managing Actions
BMC Database Automation Actions is a platform for automating tasks surrounding database administration or any event. Defining Actions enables you to add or enhance functionality that is provided out-of-the-box with BMC Database Automation, as well as to run scripts on hosts and databases throughout your environment. Actions can be run immediately, scheduled to run at a later date, or run as a pre-provisioning or post-provisioning step during a Job. The Actions you create are stored in a repository that you can access from the Management Console.
Actions can be used to enable automation surrounding operations such as the following:
- Upgrading database versions
- Configuring database replication
- Database cloning and migrations
- Updating access to hosts and databases
A generic application can also be a target of an Action. For example, an Action can be performed to remove additional components from an Agent that might have been installed during provisioning tasks such as those performed with SQL Server Tools.
