Approving SQL Server instances, databases, or Availability Groups

SQL Server instances, databases, and Availability Groups discovered by BMC Database Automation appear in the Pending Approval section of the Management Console.

Note

Microsoft SQL Server databases that are created outside of BMC Database Automation do not appear within the Pending Approval list until a BMC Database Automation operation is performed on the node. To have an externally-provisioned SQL Server database appear immediately within the Pending Approval list, restart the associated Agent.

Microsoft SQL Server Availability Groups that have been discovered by the agent and have already been approved into BMC Database Automation appear in the Pending Approval list. It is possible, however, that Availability Groups created outside of BMC Database Automation on nodes already approved into BMC Database Automation might not appear within the Pending Approval list until you rescan the cluster. To update the Management Console, click Maintenance > Rescan Cluster twice.

To approve an SQL Server instance, database, or Availability Group

  1. From the Context Frame, select Pending Approval > SQL Server.
  2. Select your approval target:
    • To approve an SQL instance, in the SQL Server Instances Pending Approval section, select the instances that you want to approve.
    • To approve an SQL database, in the SQL Server Databases Pending Approval section, select the databases that you want to approve.
    • To approve an SQL Availability Group, in the SQL Server Availability Groups Pending Approval section, select the parent cluster and Availability Group name that you want to approve.
You do not have to approve instances or databases that are part of the Availability Group separately. BMC Database Automation approves any instances or databases that are part of the group when the group is approved.
    • (2020 Release 02) To sort fields in ascending or descending order, click one of the following fields:

      TypeField
      SQL instance

      SQL Server Instance

      Version

      Node

      SQL databaseInstance
      SQL Availability GroupParent
  3. Click Approve Selected.

    Note

Changing the default name in the SQL Server Availability Name field enables you to continue to approve the Availability Group with a different name. However, you cannot change the name of the Availability Group twice.

  4. In the Pending Approval page, click Approve.
