4.1.1.2 Adding scratch tapes

UPSTREAM requires that a scratch pool have tapes whenever a new tape is required. The name of the scratch pool is configured when you configure the backup profile (the default is the pool named SCRATCH).

If you have multiple tape drive types (LTO and DLT) for example, we strongly recommend that you have multiple scratch pools and that you segregate your scratch pools by type. However, it is not required.

If you have multiple media types in a single library, we recommend that you partition the library so that you can segregate the tapes for the correct drives. Then you can have a single instance of Reservoir see each partition as a separate library.

Scratch pools are not related to allocated pools. Thus you can have scratch and allocated pools by the same name.
