Publishing a report

To make the generated reports accessible to other associates within your department or company, you can publish them. Publishing means that each execution will publish the report in a given format (CSV, HTML, or XML) and to a given place provided through a URL. This way, administrators can show reports on any server to other users, who do not have access to BMC Client Management.

To publish a report

  1. Select Reports in the left window pane.
  2. Select the desired report in the left window pane.
  3. Select the Publish tab in the right window pane.
  4. Select Edit > Create Export.
The Properties dialog box is displayed on the screen.
  5. Enter the required information in the respective boxes:

    ParameterDescription

    Export Format

Defines the format in which the report is to be exported and/or attached to the email to be sent. Different export formats are available, depending on the report type (style or template-based).

For template based reports, if the selected format is HTML, the file is exported with an .HTML.XML extension.

    Protocol

Select the protocol via which the export file will be transferred to its target location. If you select HTTP, make sure first that your HTTP server accepts files in HTTP format.

If you publish via the file protocol, you do not need to fill in the following four fields. You can continue with the field Path

    Account Credentials

Select an account credential to access the export file in its target location.

    Host Name

Enter the name of the host machine on which the file is to be stored. You may enter the name either as its short or complete network name, for example, scotty or scotty.enterprise.com, or as its IP address in dotted notation, for example, 194.45.245.5 or 2001:db8:85a3::8a2e:370:7334.

This field is not applicable if you have chosen file as your protocol.

    ServerHost nameExample
FTPEnter the host name without the ftp:// prefix ftp.enterprise.com
    HTTP

    Enter the host name:

    • Without the http:// prefix
    • Short or complete network name
    • IP address in dotted notation

    Port

Enter the port number of the target host through which the export file is to be transferred. This field is not applicable if you have chosen file as your protocol.

SMB: If no port is entered, the default smb port is used, even if 0 is displayed in the window in this case.

    Path

Enter the complete directory path of the export file on the target machine. Do not add a name for the file. The file name is by default the name of the report with the extension corresponding to the chosen file type.

    ProtocolPathExample
SMBThe path must be real, complete path on the target device.
List the destination directory (without the file name).
    C:Temp for Windows
LinuxThe full path is not required. Enter the share name.If your path is /home/user/ and the name of your share is myshare, enter only myshare into this field.
    FTP and SFTP

Enter the path after the home directory of the connected user.

If only a dot with backslash (.) is entered, this indicates the home directory.

    HTTP

Enter the path after the home directory of the connected user.

If only a backslash () is entered, this indicates the home directory.

If FPAC is entered with the host name scotty.enterprise.com,  the URL is

    http://scotty.enterprise.com/FPAC.
  6. Click OK to confirm.
The export for the desired report was set up. On generation, it is exported in the specified format and published to the specified path.

On Helix Client Management (SaaS) ftp is disabled and sftp should be used.
