Creating Scripts and Subset Repositories (MQ)

Repositories contain recorded activity in a compressed format. Scripts contain formatted, human-readable data generated from a repository. Play back the scripts you create to test applications that use MQ messaging or browse them to review MQ data flows.

Once you have recorded activity, use the Create MQ Scripts option to:

  • Build testing scripts from the capture repository.
  • Generate subset repositories containing specified activity.
  • Generate logs and reports such as script logs that list all of the scripts created, detail data files that contain the contents of the message buffers, and event summaries (CSV or HTML format) that list all of the events that match your filtering criteria.

Performance Test for WebSphere MQ processes the entire repository during script creation. The larger the repository, the longer it takes to create scripts. Additionally, scripts require more storage than raw data. Minimize script creation time and storage overhead by generating subset repositories containing only the desired activity. Store the data as a repository until you need to create testing scripts.

When you are ready to create scripts, save time and spare system resources by identifying the repository segments of interest. Script only the segments you need instead of the entire capture repository. The Capture Segment Summary indicates when recording began and ended for each segment of the specified repositories. Review the report with a file browsing tool such as ISPF Browse or import it into a spreadsheet or database for easy manipulation.
