Scaling a workload by percentage

Use the following procedure to scale a workload by percentage to see the potential cost savings by limiting the workload activity.

You might also scale a workload to evaluate expected workload changes (for example, changes due to a new advertising campaign or to acquiring a new store).

Note

When scaling workload activity, the Planning tool changes the activity of that workload for the entire usage month by the selected percentage.

To scale a workload by a percentage

  1. In the Workload Actions column, clickscale icon.PNG.
The Scale Workload Activity for lparName dialog displays as shown in the following figure:
    scale workload activity for lpar.PNG
  2. In section 1 of the dialog, select one or more workloads whose activity you want to adjust.
  3. In section 2 of the dialog, enter the percentage number, or use the (defined capacity buttons.PNG) buttons to set the percentage of the Workload Work you want to change.
To increase by a certain percentage, add the percentage to the workload's existing value of 100%. For example, if you wanted to increase the workload by 50%, you would adjust the workload's percentage to 150%.
  4. (optional) In section 2, enter the percentage number, or use the  (defined capacity buttons.PNG) buttons to set the percentage of the Mobile reduction from the LPAR R4HA Reduction Activity you want to change.

You can increase (grow) or decrease (shrink) a percentage of the Mobile Reduction for the workload's LPAR. In general, when you increase the percentage of the mobile reduction, the LPAR receives a cost reduction and when you decrease the percentage of mobile reduction the LPAR accrues a cost increase.

    Note

This option is available only when the selected LPAR has Mobile Reduction activity.

  5. (optional) In section 2, enter the percentage number, or use the (defined capacity buttons.PNG) buttons to set the percentage of the zCAP reduction from the LPAR R4HA Reduction Activity you want to change.

You can increase (grow) or decrease (shrink) a percentage of the zCAP Reduction for the workload's LPAR. In general, when you increase the percentage of the zCAP reduction, the LPAR receives a cost reduction and when you decrease the percentage of zCAP reduction the LPAR accrues a cost increase.

    Note

This option is available only when the selected LPAR has zCAP Reduction activity.

  6. When finished, click Apply Adjustments. The Planning tool applies changes to the model and performs an evaluation.
  7. When prompted to view the evaluation results, click Yes to view them (as described in Viewing-the-Plan-Evaluation-Summary-Report) or No to continue working.

    Note

After Cost Analyzer evaluates the model, the modified workload activity becomes the current 100% level.
