TREND

TREND is a report-specific command that you can issue when viewing reports using a collector or archive source.

Use the TREND command to change the time interval of the report that you are viewing while maintaining the context of the report. You can change the time interval to assess whether an observed performance anomaly is new for the original interval or is a continuation of an existing problem.

Parameter

Description

None

Expands the time interval of the report 1 day into the past

days

Expands the interval by the specified number of days. The default value is 1.

FORWARD

Expands the interval into the future (up to the current time as a maximum). If not specified, the interval is expanded into the past.

ARCHIVES

Includes archived data in the updated view of the report.

Limits the selected data to the time of day for which the report was entered. After being specified, this option is retained for subsequent TREND commands until the report is deactivated.

Type TREND (with or without parameters) on the Command line and press Enter.

Example 1

Depending on the goal of your analysis, you might want to access a report that groups data by time before using the TREND command. For example, if you are viewing an

Example 2

Another example would be a report for events such as exceptions or errors. Using the TREND command for this report increases the range of time for which this report displays event summaries and the number of events that you can select for details.

If the report is not grouped by time, you can issue the TREND command to increase the time range for the report, and watch for:

  • New items
  • Significant changes to counters in existing items
  • Significant changes to averages in existing items
