Specifying internal and external authentication

By default, BMC Remedy AR System attempts to authenticate users internally. In all cases, if the user and password match a record in the User form, authentication succeeds. Similarly, in all cases, if the user and password do not match a record in the form, authentication fails.

To use external authentication, select one of the following options in the EA tab in the AR System Administration: Server Information form:

  • Authenticate Unregistered Users — If a user is not in the User form, BMC Remedy AR System tries external authentication. See Authenticating unregistered users.

    Note

If the user group information is returned through external authentication, you cannot be a part of any administrator group. You can be a part of the administrator group only from the User form.

  • Cross Reference Blank Password — If a user does not provide a password, BMC Remedy AR System tries to cross-reference the user with an external source. See Cross-referencing blank passwords.

Important

To use external authentication, you must set the External Authentication Server RPC Program Number field to 390695.
