Enabling notifications for mid tier session timeout

Starting with BMC Remedy AR System 9.1.04, you can receive a mid tier session timeout notification 5 minutes prior to the mid tier session timeout. This notification allows you to extend the mid tier session and helps to avoid an abrupt session timeout.

You receive the session timeout notification on all the browsers supported by BMC Remedy AR System. The session timeout notifications are localized. If you are working on multiple forms, and you receive a notification, click OK on the notification dialog box of any form to continue the session for all forms for that specified period of time.

To enable a mid tier session timeout notification

  1. In the file, set the value of the  arsystem.show_session_timeout_popup property to true.
  2. Restart Tomcat.

Example: How the mid tier session timeout notification works

If you set the mid tier session timeout to 7 minutes, after 2 minutes you get a notification that your session will time out in 5 minutes. If you click OK on the notification dialog box, your session continues for another 7 minutes. If you click [X] on the notification dialog box, your session will time out after 5 minutes (provided you keep the system idle). For more information about configuring session time out, see Configuring mid tier session time out

Can somebody confirm the parameter is documented correctly?

I originally tried it as documented with a capital P in Popup however it never appeared to work. I changed it to "arsystem.show_session_timeout_popup" with a lower case p and I started receiving the timeout warning before my session was about to end.

Either it is not case sensitive and was fluke on my side or the documentation needs to be corrected with a lower case 'p' in popup.

In a customer scenario , we have seen that changes need to be performed in Centralized configuration Page .

We checked this at customer's linux Remedy environment (1805) wherein changes performed on were getting reset after a tomcat restart.

Solution was to modify that Same arsystem.show_session_timeout_popup parameter through Centralized configuration in arserver Administration settings which was updated successfully for all midtiers .

    Regards, Harveen
