Creating a Detailed Difference Report

From the comparison of two sets of objects, even on different servers or in different files, BMC Remedy Migrator can create a report that specifies only the differences that are not permitted in overlays. The report filters all differences that are legal for BMC Remedy Migrator to migrate or differences that need an overlay created.

A difference that is not permitted in an overlay is a change to a property of the origin object. Such a property change must be resolved before it can be migrated.

You can compare objects by mapping the origin objects on the source server (or file) to the overlay objects on the destination server (or file), or by mapping the overlay objects on the source server (or file) to the origin objects on the destination server (or file).

To create a Detailed Difference Report

  1. In the tree view in the left navigation pane, select the root node (server name) or select items in the objects list, and right-click.

    Note

When you select the root node, all objects on the server are used to create the report. When you select a set of items from the objects list, only those selected objects are used.

  2. From the menu, select Differences Not Permitted on Overlays > Select Destination and continue with this step, or select a server from the server list and skip to step 3.

If you select Differences Not Permitted on Overlays > Select Destination, a Destination Type dialog box appears that enables you to select either Server or Migrator File to use for the object comparison.
    • If you selected Server, perform the following steps:
      1. In the Login dialog box, enter the password for the current user.
      2. From the server list, select a server.
        • If you selected the root node in step 1, browse and select an existing BMC Remedy Migrator instruction file from the Detailed Difference dialog box.

The instruction file provides a list of objects for which to generate a detailed difference report.
        • In the Detailed Difference dialog box, click Generate Difference Report.
        • If you selected a set of items from the objects list in step 1, in the Source - Destination Mapping dialog box, select either Map Origin To Overlay or Map Overlay to Origin, and then click OK. (If you click OK without selecting a map type, the report is created by mapping Overlay to Overlay or Origin to Origin.)
    • If you selected Migrator File in step 2, perform the following steps:
      1. In the browse dialog box, browse and select an existing .migrator file.
      2. Select the source-destination mapping method to use for the report, either Map Origin to Overlay or Map Overlay to Origin, and click OK. (If you click OK without selecting a map type, the report is created by mapping Overlay to Overlay or Origin to Origin.)

A new Differences Not Permitted in Overlays report based on the current server and the .migrator file contents is created.
  3. If you selected a server from the list in step 2, browse to and select an instruction file to provide a list of objects for which to generate the detailed difference report, and click Generate Difference Report.

Note

The report is generated in the .csv and .xml formats.
