Caching display properties

Display properties include the background images used in forms and the display properties of each form field. Server display properties are display properties for forms and fields used in server workflow only. The Display Property Caching option enables you to control how the server caches display properties. This feature can be used alone or in conjunction with preload threads.

To specify how display properties are cached, use the Display Property Caching option on the Configuration tab of the Server Information form.

The Cache-Display-Properties option provides the following settings:

  • Cache Only Server Display Properties (Default) — Memory usage for the cache is smaller, but when a client opens a form for the first time, response time is slower. This delay occurs because the server must load the display properties from the database at that time.
  • Cache All Display Properties — Server response time is faster when a client opens a form for the first time, but the memory space required for the server cache is larger.

In Remedy 9.1.02, the default setting is "Cache only server display properties". Can you please verify this and update the page?

This page needs correction. The property is called "Cache-Display-Properties" NOT "Display Property Cache". Additionally the DEFAULT is the other option.

You set it to TRUE if you want ALL display properties cached this is the DEFAULT. This takes more memory and more time to start up the server but the users do not have to wait for the form to load.

SETTING IT TO FALSE will save memory because it doesn't cache all the properties initially thus performance is SLOWER! This allows the server to start a tad faster but each user is impacted when they first open the form.

T — (Default) Cache all form-display properties. F — Cache only server-display properties. (This can negatively impact the performance of the server if a form is changed, but it reduces the amount of memory used in the server cache.)
