Multiple Flashboards servers and AR System servers

If you run multiple BMC Remedy AR System servers with multiple BMC Remedy Flashboards servers on the same system, only one BMC Remedy Flashboards server is active at any given time. This section describes procedures to override this setting to start one or more additional servers manually.

For example, you might want to run multiple BMC Remedy Flashboards servers if you run multiple BMC Remedy AR System instances when each instance is connected to a different database that uses a different language.

Note

One of the BMC Remedy Flashboards servers can be installed on a remote system to avoid having to start one service manually.

To manually start a BMC Remedy Flashboards server

  1. Change the value of the Remote Method Invocation (RMI) port in the server.conf file to any port that is not in use.

    Example

    RMIRegistryPort=2099

  2. Start the server:
    • To start the server on Microsoft Windows, use the Control Panel, or type start.bat from the command prompt.
    • To start the server on UNIX, type server.sh.start from the command line.
      The server.bat or server.sh file is located in the BMC Remedy Flashboards server installation directory.
  3. After installing, enter the RMI port values into the Flashboards server.conf files in the Flashboards installation directory that correspond to each BMC Remedy Flashboards server, as follows:
    • server.conf 1
      RMIRegistryPort=1099
    • server.conf 2
      RMIRegistryPort=1066

      The port numbers must correspond to unused ports.
