Overlays enhancements in version 8.1.00
This topic provides information about the following overlays enhancements in this release.
AR System server overlays enhancements
AR System objects now use granular overlays. Using granular overlays, you can now add to, overwrite, or inherit different parts of an object in an overlay. You can modify some characteristics of an object while inheriting other parts. You can also add to aspects of an object while inheriting properties from the origin object. If parts of an object are inherited or added to, those updates to the origin object are made to the overlay. Using granular overlays minimizes the need to reconcile overlays after applying upgrades or patches.
Granular overlays can apply inheritance to an entire overlay, including aspects of the object that can or cannot be added to, providing a transparent overlay that inherits all characteristics from an overlaid object.
For more information, see Granular overlays.
BMC Remedy Developer Studio overlays enhancements
In BMC Remedy Developer Studio, you can now define form properties in the Definitions tab and field properties in the Properties tab.
Defining form properties in the Definitions tab
In the Base Development mode, you can now define form properties in the Definitions tab in the form editor. In the Best Practice Customization mode, you can now define granular properties for an object in the Permissions, Indexes, and Other Definitions panes in the Definitions tab. Dialog boxes on several tabs indicate whether the object is an overlay.
All fields in a form are now visible in the Outline tab when you select the Definitions tab. Selecting a field in the Outline tab displays the properties of the field in the Properties tab.
For more information, see Setting form properties.
Defining field properties in the Properties tab
In the Best Practice Customization mode, you can now define the Overlay Type for permissions and other granular overlay field property settings in lists at the top of the Properties tab. You can also set permissions for a custom field on the Properties tab.
For more information, see Properties tab for fields in Best Practice Customization Mode.
