Obtaining BMC Remedy license keys

You must obtain a BMC Remedy license key to install the AR System server. This topic includes the following sections:

A license key is a value that enables you to activate a license. In BMC Remedy AR System 8.1, only AR System server licenses require keys. Each key is tied to a particular host; a unique entry for each server is therefore required within the Add or Remove Licenses form. To request a temporary or permanent key, you must access the BMC Support Central Site at

If you purchased your AR System server license through a BMC sales representative or over the web, you can download the product from the BMC Electronic Product Distribution (EPD) site. Access the EPD site from the BMC Customer Support website at  

To request a license key

  1. Log on to BMC Support Central at
  2. Click Licensing and Passwords.
  3. Click Request a New License
    You can also click Request a Trail/Temporary License if needed. These licenses are valid only for 30 days.
  4. Click I Agree.
  5. Enter the required information for the license, for example, the purchase order number.
    1. Verify that your available licensed products and features you are attempting to obtain are related with the Support Contract ID displayed on the form. If the correct Support ID is not displayed, contact BMC Customer Support to help manager your support IDs.
    2. Select the correct AR Server version, for example, *7.1 and Higher *.
    3. Enter the host ID of the AR System server. 
      To find the Host ID, see To determine the server host ID using the ipconfig command.
  6. Select AR Server under Product Feature and enter 1 in Quantity Requested.
  7. Click Request License.


    You can only request 1 license key at a time.

    Your license key will be sent to your email address.

To determine the server host ID using the ipconfig command (Windows)

  1. Open a command window on the server computer.
  2. At the prompt, enter ipconfig /all.
  3. Find the physical address for the server computer.
    In the following screenshot, the physical address is 00-FF-B0-AB-3D-07.

    BMC uses the physical address of your computer without the dashes.
  4. To use the server host ID to obtain your license key, remove the dashes from the physical address.
    In this example, the server host ID that BMC uses to license the AR System server is 00FFB0AB3D07.
  5. Use this information to generate your permanent or temporary license key. 

    To determine the server host ID using the ifconfig command (Linux)

  6. Open a terminal.
  7. At the prompt, enter ifconfig.
  8. Record the Hardware Address. For example:
    HWaddr 00:50:56:AC:04:10
  9. Remove all the colons from the value and convert uppercase letters to lowercase (for example,005056ac0410).
  10. Use this information to generate your permanent or temporary license key.
