Deploying the .war file on Tomcat

  1. Download the .war file from the EPD.

Download the .war file to a directory other than <ARSystemInstallDir>.

  2. Extract the .war file to a folder where the Tomcat process can write to and read from.
The recommended location is the <ARSystemInstallDir>/MidtierNew folder, where <ARSystemInstallDir> is the location where you have installed BMC Remedy AR System.

To use an archiving software to extract the .war file to a folder, change the extension from .war to .zip.

  3. Stop the Tomcat.
  4. Go to <Apache Tomcat folder>\conf\Catalina\localhost
  5. Open the arsys.xml file
  6. Update the docBase parameter with the location of the extracted .war file.
  7. Set the following variables to the mid tier installation directory path (\WEB-INF\lib):

    Linux and Solaris

  8. Only for UNIX platform, install the required libstdc++5 libraries.

  9. Start the Tomcat.

I don't see the instructions for deploying the .war file.  This section starts off with "After deploying the .war file on Tomcat"...

      Hi Jeanheri,

It is compressed file. You need to uncompress it as any other file.

        Ok, thank you!

And what about the point 7 ? I do not really understand what to do?

        Sorry and thanks again...

          Hi Jeanhenri,

At point 7 you must update the mid tier installation path.

The table provides variable names for different platform. Depending on the platform you are working on, the variable name differs. For example, if you are on Windows platform, you need to update the Path variable with the Mid Tier installation directory.

Deploying .war file instructions are not enough for a person like me.

Previously BMC used to provide step by step instructions.

When we install the midtier its installed under path < AR Installed path>/midtier folder and in tomcat  folder <tomcat installed>conf/Catalina/localhost/arsys.xml file has docBase pointed to midtier installed folder.

When It comes to deploy the .war file 7 steps does not tell me when I download the .war file where do i need to place it and it should extract the .war file contents in midtier installed folder or if we want the .war file extracted in different location then what are the steps?

can you explain what the libstdc++5 libraries are needed for? It seems our web server department is only providing an older version, but I could not detect any errors so far.

Step 5 mentions open the arsys.xml file. However I am unable to find this file in <Apache Tomcat folder>\conf\Catalina\localhost.

Please note I haven't installed Midtier yet using the traditional installation method. Please advise.

        Hello Anantha,

        Apologies for a delayed response.

When you install mid tier, pointing to the Tomcat installed, the arsys.xml file is automatically pushed to the mentioned location.

          Hello Anagha,

I dont think it comes automatically. I just copied the war file manually in the Tomcat/webapps directory and on execution of tomcat though midtier works fine it still does not create the arsys.xml file.
