Configuring clients for AR System servers

When servers are configured to run on specific TCP ports, the clients must be configured to match.

The specifics of your firewall configuration vary from manufacturer to manufacturer. Ask the network and security professionals at your company for more information.

For more information about TCP port numbers, see Assigning TCP port numbers to AR System servers.

To access private queues, client computers must either set the appropriate RPC and TCP values in the Accounts dialog box, or have the ARRPC and ARTCPPORT environment variables set.

Port 111 is used for Portmapper, and this port can be blocked for requests coming through the firewall. Internal requests are affected by this rule because Register-With-Portmapper: T is the default configuration setting of the portmapper. See the discussion in Configuring a server to use plug-ins.
