User interface enhancements in version 8.0.00

This topic provides information about the user interface enhancements and new features.

See also BMC Remedy Developer Studio enhancements.

Configure a short name for the AR System server to use in the mid tier

Using the BMC Remedy Mid Tier Configuration Tool, you can configure BMC Remedy Mid Tier to use the short name of the AR System server. The Use Short Name option has been added in the AR Server Settings pages: the Add New Server page and the Edit AR Server page. For more information, see Adding a new server and Editing server properties.

User interface changes for BMC Remedy Assignment Engine

You can use the new ASE:Admin-ServerSettings form to configure the Assignment Engine logs.
For more information, see Configuring the Assignment Engine logs.

Enhanced flow layout support for panels and at view level

You can now define the Layout Style option of a form view as Flow. In a flow layout style, the table and view fields grow or shrink vertically based on their content and fill their parent container horizontally. This style allows vertical stacking in a single column of these field types. You can define the vertical spacing for these resized fields within their container.

For more information, see Panel layout styles and Using flow layout to avoid multiple scroll bars.

Content clipping for cell-based tables

When table chunking is enabled, you can now set the Content Clipping property of a cell-based table to display many cells that fit in the table without displaying a scroll bar. The actual chunk size remains unchanged, but the number of visible cells can change.

The number of cells that are displayed dynamically adjusts in a table when a browser window is resized or when a panel is resized. Chunks update in the interface when cells are added or deleted. You can also customize the next and previous chunking buttons of your application.

For more information, see Setting content clipping for cell-based tables.

Drop shadow for panels and panel holders

For the Microsoft Internet Explorer 9, Mozilla Firefox, and Apple Safari browsers, drop shadows are now set by default for system pop-up menus. Drop shadows for floating panels and panel holders are also enabled by default. You can enable and disable drop shadows for panels and panel holders by setting the Drop Shadow property.

For more information, see Drop shadows in panels and panel holders.

Enhancement to skins

You can now apply skins to the following objects:

  • Application List (Flyout mode)
  • Vertical Navigation (Flyout mode)
  • Table Field
  • View Field
  • Data Field
  • System-level components
  • AR Templates
  • Data Visualization Module
  • Web Header

You can also use the new tags functionality to apply the same skin across various forms.

For information about tags and other objects to which you apply skins, see Applying skins to form views.

Customizable splitter

You can now control whether a splitter within a splitter panel holder can be dragged to resize the panels and whether the splitter is visible.

The following settings are available:

  • Visible (default) — The splitter is visible, and you can drag it to resize the panels.
  • Invisible — The splitter is not visible, but you can drag it.
  • Disabled — The splitter is not visible, and you cannot drag it.

For more information, see Panel holder display types.

Ability to schedule and publish reports

The Report Console window has been enhanced with Schedule and Publish options. Using these options, you can schedule the date and time to run a report and send the report to a specified recipient or list of recipients through email. These options are enabled for Web reports only, not for AR System reports.

For more information about these options, see Scheduling reports and Publishing reports.

Dynamic context menu on right-click in tables

BMC Remedy AR System now enables applications to attach a context menu to a control field at run time. Workflow can be used to change the content of the context menu dynamically, based on the table row selection and the cell content.

For more information, see Defining a context menu and Creating a dynamic Change Field action.

Enhancements to button field appearance

BMC Remedy AR System provides built-in styles for buttons and the ability for applications to specify multiple images for a button and change the appearance of buttons depending on the state. Now, buttons look different in the mouse-over and on-click states.

Two new properties have been added in BMC Remedy Developer Studio to change the appearance of buttons.

For more information about button field appearance, see Button fields.

Enhancements to table field chunking

The appearance and the alignment of the chunk control have changed in BMC Remedy AR System. Also, the chunk control drop-down menu now displays the record number (starting and ending record number of the chunk being displayed), and not the page number.

For more information about changes to the chunk control, see Chunk control in table fields.

Enhancements to column alignments in tables

Prior to this release, the alignment of data in the BMC Remedy AR System table fields was based on the data type. The column headers and all column data were left aligned, except for the numeric data type and control field types.

BMC Remedy AR System now provides flexibility to the applications to manage the alignment of the column headers and data in the BMC Remedy AR System table fields, irrespective of the data type.

For more information about aligning columns, see List view tables.
