Running the Approval Join Fix utility

After the join forms are created, run the Approval Join Fix (joinfix) utility once for each approval request form that you connect to the approval server. To run the joinfix utility manually, see Running the approval utilities.

This utility modifies the join qualifications to make sure that your application communicates correctly with the approval server. The joinfix utility is installed in the same directory as the approval server.

The syntax for joinfix is as follows:

joinfix
 -x Server
 -u User
[-p Password] [-t TCP Port]
[-a Authentication String] [-r RPC Port]
[-f Form]
[-m Mode]

The following table describes the parameters that administrators need to supply when running the joinfix utility:

Parameters for the joinfix utility

Parameter

Description

-x

(Mandatory) Name or IP address of the BMC Remedy AR System server to log into (or localhost, if applicable).

-u

(Mandatory) Specify the BMC Remedy AR System user name. This user must belong to an administrator group, otherwise the utility cannot be run successfully, and the following error is displayed at the command prompt and written to approval-utils.log:
Admin verification failed: <userName>

-p

(Optional) Specify the password for the aforementioned user. Omit this parameter if the user account does not have a password.

-t

(Optional) TCP port number of the server being logged into. This parameter is required if the BMC Remedy AR System server is configured to listen on a particular TCP port.

If the BMC Remedy AR System server is configured to use a portmapper, do not use the -t parameter. If the BMC Remedy AR System server does not use a portmapper, use the -t parameter and replace portNumber with the appropriate TCP port.

Tip

The joinfix utility might return authentication errors on a BMC Remedy AR System server that is configured to run with a specific TCP port. If such errors occur, set the ARTCPPORT environment variable to the appropriate port number and try again.

-a

(Optional) Specify the authentication string.

-r

(Optional) RPC port number of the server being logged into. This parameter is required if the BMC Remedy AR System server is configured to listen on a particular RPC port.

-f

(Optional) Specify the name of the form.

-m

(Optional) Specify one of the following modes:

Mode 1: Update Join Criteria
Mode 2: Add new fields in Three-way Join Form

Note

Use mode 1 to update the join criteria.
Use mode 2 when you upgrade your BMC Remedy AR System server and approval server to release 7.x.xx from an earlier release. See Performing required three-way join form updates.

This should be named arjoinfix, not joinfix.  There is no utility named joinfix on the server.

So which mode should I run for which new forms?  Or do I run both modes against both new forms?
