Optional components that you can install

When you install BMC Remedy Mid Tier by using the suite installer, the following optional features are installed (if you select them):

  • Tomcat JSP engine — The Tomcat JSP engine is installed in <ARSystemInstallDir>\<serverID>\tomcat.
In BMC Remedy Action Request (AR) System 8.0.00, you can install Tomcat version 6.0.20. If you select this option, the installer checks for versions of Tomcat and displays messages accordingly:
    • No Tomcat version is detected — You can either install Tomcat by using the BMC Remedy Mid Tier installer or choose not to install Tomcat.
    • Unsupported Tomcat version is detected — The installer displays a message indicating that you need to install the supported Tomcat version before continuing with the installation.
    • Different supported Tomcat version is detected — The installer displays a message indicating that the supported version is already present. You can install version 6.0.20 or use the version that you already have installed.
    • Same Tomcat version is detected — BMC Remedy Mid Tier installation continues.
  • (Windows only) The required BMC Remedy ODBC DLLs and driver for Crystal Reports — You must have BusinessObjects Enterprise XI (BOXI) to run Crystal Reports. When you upgrade the mid tier, the installer replaces your ODBC driver with the latest one.

    Note

In release 8.0.00, BMC Remedy AR System supports only version 3.1 of BusinessObjects Enterprise XI. If you are using Crystal Reports with BMC Remedy AR System and have an earlier version of BusinessObjects Enterprise XI installed, you must upgrade BusinessObjects Enterprise XI to version 3.1 before installing BMC Remedy AR System 8.0.00.

  • (Windows only) ARWebReportViewer application — If you have BusinessObjects Enterprise XI installed, the ARWebReportViewer application is installed.
You can install the ARWebReportViewer alone on a separate server. (Run the suite installer, and choose only the AR Crystal Web Application option.)
The minimum amounts of free space required for the mid tier host are as follows:
    • 120,000 KB during installation
    • 40,000 KB after installation

Please could you clarify a couple of the statements made with regards to the ARWebReportViewer application installation. This is in regards to a Windows installation.

    1) The statement - "If you have BusinessObjects Enterprise XI installed, the ARWebReportViewer application is installed."  - Does this mean it is installed automatically with the BOXi installation?

    2) The statement - "You can install the ARWebReportViewer alone on a separate server. (Run the suite installer, and choose only the AR Crystal Web Application option.)" - At what point in the Ver8.1 mid tier installation does this option become selectable? I already have a mid tier server and do not wish to install another just to get to this feature.

      Hi Basil,

      1) No, ARWebReportViewer is not installed automatically with the BOXi installation; however, it requires BoXi server as a prerequisite. ARWebReportViewer is a component of the mid tier and it is installed with the mid tier.

      2) In the AR Installer of version 8.1, you do not have an option to select ARWebReportViewer. ARWebReportViewer is automatically installed with the mid tier. If you want to install ARWebReportViewer on another machine, you will have to install mid tier too.

      Hope this helps!

      Thanks,

      Ashwini
