If yes it would be good to add the link here. Because I am interest in Information about what happen if I change Currency Codes. Because the customer likes to change them and I don't no if there are any effects to existing Data with the current currency codes...

For example there was a currency code YUM (Yugoslavian Dinar). Currently it is configured in our ARS in the form AR System Currency Code. But the Currency does not exist anymore in real life. What happens if I delete this, does I get in to trouble with old records which use this Currency Code in the data? Or a other example. There is the Currency Sudanese Pound, it is configured as SDP in ARS but now we like to change it to SDG because this is the current ISO Code. And now I am wondering what will happen with Fields definition where the Code is used and what happen with data that use the SDG code when I change it. I am searching this kind of information.

              Hi Raimo,

When you delete a currency such as YUM from the currency code form, and open the records referring to that currency, then the values in the currency fields are shown blank; however, the values are retained in the database until they are overwritten.

Same behavior is observed when you modify a currency. No error would be thrown in either case.

              Hope this helps!

                Hi Ashwini

                Ok thanks!

Therefore it is not a good idea to delete any currency code. Do you know what happen if I remove the "Active" Flag? Because I remove the flag, but I still see it in the GUI. Does it has any effect?

                THX, Raimo

                Hi Ashwini

Me once again (smile) Does it's is planed to fully document this currency stuff? Just that is clear how to delete and rename currency codes. And to make clear how this forms work (for example the "Active" Flag).

                best regards,

                Raimo

                  Hello Raimo,

Here is the answer to your question about the Active flag:

For a particular Currency code, if you deselect the Active flag from the AR System Currency Codes form, the Currency code becomes inactive. Then, from the Developer Studio, if you add a Currency field on a form, then select the inactivated Currency code as the Allowable currency or Functional Currency and then save the form, the Developer Studio displays an appropriate error message and does not allow you to save the form.

Ideally, the particular inactivated currency code should not be available for selection from the the Developer Studio. The inactive currency codes can be either removed from the list or can be grayed out. We have raised a Defect (ID SW00474309) for this issue.

Sorry for the delay in response.

                  Thanks,
                  Bhakti

                    Hello Bhakti

Thanks for the information and for raising a Defect!

Just 1 more thing, it is not possible to rename a code. If I rename a code the old code is still configured for the fields in the developer and the "renamed" new code is handled like e new one. And If I open a form with a currency field, change something and save it, there is a error that the old code is not valid... shouldn't it be possible to rename a code and it is renamed in the fields definition too? Do I make something wrong?

                    Thanks for your help!

                    best regards,

                    Raimo

                      Hello Raimo,

If you rename a code say ABC to DEF, the renamed code DEF is handled like a new code. This change is not propagated to the definition of the currency field that you have already used on an existing form.

Now, if you open an existing form which has a currency field, with the code ABC set as allowable or functional currency, then you make changes to it and save it, an error is displayed.

In this case, you must manually remove the old code ABC and select the new code DEF as the allowable or functional currency.

                      Hope this helps.

                      Regards,
                      Bhakti
