Assigning application licenses to users

After adding your application licenses to the server, follow this procedure to assign licenses for your application to users.

To assign licenses to users

  1. In the AR System Administration Console, click Application > Users/Groups/Roles > Users.
  2. In the User form, create a user (New mode) or find an existing user (Search mode).
  3. Enter information in the appropriate fields to create or modify users.
  4. In the Application License field, enter the name of the application and the appropriate license type, as shown in the following figure.

The License Type field with the Read, Fixed, Floating, and Restricted Read values is applicable only for  AR System server user licenses and not for application licenses. The License Type field with the Bundled value can be used to assign bundled licenses to the users. Also, for this option, you must select a value for the Application License field from the drop-down menu, which grants the license to access the  AR System server and the selected applications. The Application License field displays the bundled license that is assigned to you in the Electronic Product Distribution (EPD) system.

To provide a user with write access to the system, set the License Type field to Fixed or Floating.

Use the following syntax when providing users with application licenses:

    <vendorName:applicationName> <user> <typeOfLicense>
    XYZ:MusicManager User Fixed

    Separate multiple licenses with semicolons:

    ;XYZ:MusicManager User Fixed;;XYZ:NoiseManager User Floating;
  5. Save your changes.
These application licenses function like other user licenses for BMC Remedy products. You can view current user information in the Manage User Licenses window in the AR System Administration Console, as shown in the following figure.

To assign licenses to license pools

  1. In the Group form, create a new group (New mode) or find an existing group (Search mode).
  2. Enter the required information in the appropriate fields to create or modify groups.
  3. Enter the application name and the number of application floating licenses to be held in the application license pool for a particular group in the Application Floating License field.

Users who need to be granted these application floating licenses must be a part of this group.

  4. Save the changes.
The application license pool is created.

Can we get an example of how to setup application floating licenses. The current doc just states the fields to use but this field is a text field so an example would benefit users.
