Comparing objects in BMC Remedy Migrator

Using BMC Remedy Migrator, you can perform the following comparisons of origin and overlay objects:

• Compare overlay objects at the source with origin objects at the destination
• Compare origin objects at the source with overlay objects at the destination
• Compare origin objects with overlay objects on the same server

To compare objects in BMC Remedy Migrator

1. In the objects list, select one or more items, and right-click.
2. From the menu, select Differences > Select Destination.
3. In the Destination Type dialog box, select the option to use for the object comparison:
   • Server: Perform the following steps:
     1. In the Login dialog box, enter the password for the current user.
     2. From the server list, select a server.
     3. In the Source - Destination Mapping dialog box, click either Map Origin To Overlay or Map Overlay to Origin, and then click OK to generate the comparison report.
   • Migrator File: Perform the following steps:
     1. In the browse dialog box, browse and select an existing .migrator file and click Open.
     2. In the Source - Destination Mapping dialog box, click either Map Origin To Overlay or Map Overlay to Origin, and then click OK to generate the comparison report based on the current server and the .migrator file contents.

To create a Migrator Instruction file to use for comparison

1. In the objects list, select one or more items, and right-click.
2. From the menu, select Create Instruction File.
3. (Optional) Select the source-destination mapping method to use for the report:
   • Map Origin to Overlay
   • Map Overlay to Origin
4. In the Save As dialog box, specify a file and location, and save the instruction file.
