ActivityDescriptionDetails
Collects logs and diagnostic information

The BMC Remedy AR System Maintenance tool provides access to installation and uninstallation logs. Every time that you run the installer or uninstaller, a new log file is created or appended to an existing log file. To view the log files, use the Log Viewer option in the BMC Remedy AR System Maintenance tool.

The log viewer is a graphical presentation of the log files. Each installer log session is displayed as a tab. The tab's name includes a time stamp of the installer run. The tab displays the contents of the log file, with errors highlighted in red and warnings highlighted in yellow. Entries are presented in a table format that you can sort. The BMC Remedy AR System Maintenance tool also allows you to collect diagnostic information that can be used for further troubleshooting.

The Log Zipper utility, part of the BMC Remedy AR System Maintenance tool, collect the diagnostics in a zip file that can be later submitted to BMC Customer Support.

You can use the Health Check tab in the BMC Remedy AR System Maintenance tool to run a post installation health check on your files.

Troubleshooting issues using BMC Remedy AR System Maintenance tool

If an issue occurs while running Maintenance Tool, investigate it by performing the following.

  1. Allow a minute for the Maintenance Tool to start.
The Maintenance Tool opens a command prompt window briefly and loads the components. The user interface might take a minute to display.
  2. If accessing the server remotely, verify the display environment is configured properly.
Maintenance Tool is a graphical display, so the display environment must be configured on UNIX.
When accessing a Windows system remotely using Terminal Services, the Maintenance Tool takes longer time to display.
  3. Verify you access the server with a user that has correct permissions.
The Maintenance Tool leverages the environment configured during installation, including environment variables and permissions to files and the JVM environment for the Maintenance Tool. Accessing the operating system as the user who performed the installation is a good method to ensure the proper environment is available.
  4. Run the Maintenance Tool from the command line, which does not require a graphical user interface.

Where to go from here
